The first cat in space was named Félicette, in 1963.
Happy international cat day! Very purr, such meow, many floof! #InternationalCatDay
Félicette wasn't the only cat considered for the French space program.
14 cats were prepared for the research program.
But when it came time for the October 18 mission, C341 was the one selected.
One mission turned C341 into Félicette.
1963: almost nobody knew her name.
For decades: her story faded from public memory.
2026: people from around the world are discovering Félicette again.
And tomorrow we'll introduce her to even more.
That's the mission. 🐈⬛
We have plenty of ideas for where we can take the Félicette community.
But we don't want every decision coming from us.
What's one thing YOU would build around her story?
Throw us your craziest idea.
Nothing is off the table. 👇
Félicette never chose to become part of history.
She couldn't understand what humans were trying to accomplish.
That's part of why her story deserves to be told with respect, not just remembered as a funny “space cat” story.
There was a real animal behind the history.
For a few minutes in 1963…
every cat on Earth was below Félicette.
Every city.
Every human.
Almost every living creature.
One tiny cat above an entire planet. 🌎🐈⬛
