The story of Masterda — the teacher who became a legend of courage, resistance & sacrifice

July 5, 2012.
🕖 7:20 PM, Gobardanga railway station, North 24 Parganas, Bengal.
A Bongaon local pulls in. Among the passengers is a beloved Bengali teacher from Mitra Institution. Locals know him as Masterda.
That day, unlike usual, none of his students or friends came to escort him home. A wedding in the village had kept them busy.
He didn’t know that several pairs of eyes were waiting for this very moment.
As he walked to his bike near the station gate, shots rang out.
🔫 One bullet pierced his back.
🔫 Another, his chest.
He collapsed on the platform, bleeding, whispering with his last breath:
“Save me.”
For half an hour, no one came forward.
By the time he was rushed to the hospital, it was too late. The voice of resistance was silenced.
The next day, torrential rains couldn’t stop thousands from gathering to pay their last respects.

One thing I have noticed as a journo is, it doesn't take much to hoodwink the Indian media. Most edit rooms don't have specialists. In these times of layoffs and understaffed newsrooms, it looks like it's easier to pull the wool over media's eyes. A thread:
@i_shilpan@PMOIndia@narendramodi@MoHFW_INDIA The news report not saying that. The doctor told him to get admission in MR bangur as far as I know beleghata id hospital is for severely ill patients
