The holidays are officially underway, and the can be awesome, hard, or some combination. If you're having a hard time, reach out. Call a friend, call a hotline, call me.
Went to see #beetlejuice at the movies last night. Thinking about it today, I'm struck by the idea that it's really just a story of wanting to be seen and accounted for.
But also it's a really good, perfectly silly ghosty-monster movie.
Sexual assault stories make the news all the time, but not usually national news. The reliving of primary trauma for so many women - men, too - and the secondary trauma of so many stories on such a large scale with so much dismissal is overwhelming.
This speaks to so many issues in the basic structure of medical practice, PLUS the mental health aspects of being overweight and trying to address it with your doctor.

Research suggests that cursing is a sign of intelligence and is also good for you. Having a self-sustaining binary language covering everything seems a bit of a superskill.
Pregnancy loss is felt far more profoundly than people give it credit for. When it IS given credit, sympathy is often given to the mom, leaving the dad to deal with his feelings on his own. Don't leave the dads out. They're hurting, too.
@matthaig1 If books about mental health are "cashing in on people's pain," I have literally an office full of it. Also, an awful lot of it at my house. And in my car & in practically anywhere I might have five minutes to read. If you can write about pain & reduce it for someone, DO IT!
Two truths and a lie:
1. @UHouston is considered one of the most innovative universities in the world.
2. It’s snowing in Houston today.
3. This statue is part of a public art piece called “The Statue of Four Lies.”

The purr of a cat is at a frequency that promotes healing and bone repair, leaving them better able to recover from injury than dogs. There are medical devices for people to aid in bone and muscle repair that vibrate at the same frequency. #TheMoreYouKnow https://t.co/Ja4Dfz0fwn
Also, re @LastChanceU: The last game @EMCCathletics played in Season 2 was against @kilgorecollege, where I was a student from 1993 to 1996. I attended exactly half of one football game the entire time I was there and didn't know until THIS SHOW how competitive JUCO football is.
Starting Season 3 of @LastChanceU. Being an exceptional athlete & accomplished in your field doesn't protect you from stresses & clearly adds to the full plate of a college student. I wish counseling was a regular part of academic life. They'd be so much better off at graduation.
The mama in me saw the mama behind me in the longest.line.ever, struggling w 3yo twins who'd missed lunch & naps & just wanted to squiggle & wiggle. I've been on that struggle bus, so held one while she sorted the other, traded when necessary. Recognize the struggle, be generous. https://t.co/QvYN7mrNTS
"I will be generous with my love today. I will sprinkle compliments and uplifting words everywhere I go. I will do this knowing that my words are like seeds and when they fall on fertile soil, a reflection of those seeds will grow into something greater." - Steve Maraboli
