25 Years On, The Heroes Return

Twenty five years ago, on September 9, 2001, a group of Tipperary hurlers ended a decade-long wait and brought the Liam MacCarthy Cup back to the Premier County.

This Sunday, those heroes of 2001 will return to Croke Park to be honoured before the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final, a fitting tribute to one of the most iconic teams in Tipperary GAA history.

Managed by Nicky English and captained by Tommy Dunne, the side defeated Galway by 2-18 to 2-15 to claim Tipperary’s 25th All-Ireland senior hurling title. It was a victory built on resilience, belief and unforgettable performances, with Lar Corbett’s goal and Brendan Cummins’ commanding display among the many lasting memories of a famous afternoon.

The team honoured this Sunday is:

As supporters gather in Croke Park once again, there will be a special moment to acknowledge the men who restored Tipperary to the summit of hurling in 2001.

Twenty five years may have passed, but their place in Tipperary sporting history remains as secure as ever.
