@MoreninT@gothspiderbitch Magnet sheets! Stick your stickers on them and keep them forever. Unless of course the artist does have magnets. Then support the artist.
@yugopnik I'm sorry to all those who have been stuck in toxic jobs because you had to to make ends meet or because there wasn't better option. I didn't mean to imply that everyone has the choice or luxury of leaving. Your perseverance and strength is amazing.
@yugopnik When I was a kid I had many adults who told me to just clock in and 'do my time' like it was a prison sentence because that's what they did to get to the "top". I'm sorry they chose to stay somewhere they were treated poorly for breadcrumbs after decades.
@SpaghettiRonin@yugopnik The discussion is the exploitation of workers, toxic work environments and expectations, and making sure that people who are working hard can afford basic needs without working three jobs. No one is saying people should quit jobs that aren't fun or easy.
@gh0ulpunk Absolutely. While unions may not have the best track record in some fields, having one is certainly better than none at all. It takes people working together to bring about change.
@dangitsdreas @yugopnik Absolutely. If there are other jobs available that can meet your needs, there's no point in staying in a job that you don't feel like you have a future at. Best of luck to you finding an employer and position where your skills and experience are valued!
@TheRoops @CrowSyndicate@yugopnik Agreed! I think we all just want to avoid burnout. Some people need change others need stability. Both types can be hard workers, and everyone has their own levels of what they can take. Too bad working until burnout has been normalized as an expectation of a 'good worker'.
@rachelernst@FunnyMalaise@yugopnik ...that's not to say everyone has the luxury of standing up, in our generation or the ones that came before. Everyone does what they have to. A mutual respect for the well-being of all workers regardless of their situation could go a long way.
@rachelernst@FunnyMalaise@yugopnik I have never understood why people would wish the same on others. Yeah, there are bad workers in every generation who do make more work for others, but this particular complaint more often seems directed at those who refuse to put up with ridiculous work demands.
@kimiecik1@yugopnik I stand corrected and certainly respect that for a very very large amount of people there isn't a choice. I just hate when some people tell others they deserve to be miserable because they haven't 'earned' decent working conditions and fair compensation.
@xmarx360@yugopnik Absolutely. Most employers I've had will only promote internally in a different department so you're not suddenly over the people you've previously worked with. If departments are too specialized you're outta luck and have to look elsewhere.
@mrcoolkid27 @yugopnik Absolutely. They know that employees only have so many choices of where to work, and insane hours are so normalized (and praised) that they can get away with requiring this because other companies do the same.
@CrowSyndicate@yugopnik Very little incentive unless you've found an employer who treats you fairly. Five years is more than enough time to not be considered 'job hopping'.
@marrenefranich @yugopnik That poem definitely hits hard. Daily grind in a nutshell. For anyone else discovering these tweets, definitely check it out!
