watched "it's already tomorrow in hong kong" on a plane recently and, while it's a great plane movie and i love hong kong, the characters had absolutely no depth and there was no resolution at the end. but plot-wise it makes a great addition to this list.
watched "past lives" & the characters had so much longing but so little connection. a lesson in what happens when you don't communicate.

Autism is having to understand other people before you understand yourself, and noone making the effort to understand you. Which even you don't understand, because all your effort has been spent understanding them.

Biden specifically has been to the right of the party even decades ago (constantly dropping the hard-r N-word in the '80s 😬) so it's very clear to me why we needed a more progressive candidate to pull the overton window left
with the war on drugs in the '70s & '80s and the war on terror in the '00s & '10s, Democrat Hawks have moved the party aggressively rightwards and progressives only gets more disaffected. we're missing every opportunity to shift things leftward again.
i want to hear what julie delpy says about this scene bc the anxious looking out the window and the relief when she sees him... imo she already liked him and knew she wanted to get off the train with him and would have said yes any way he asked
i think most hollywood movies nowadays live and die in editing. (imo a lot die.) by contest most tiktokers these days are excellent at editing. very tight editing aimed at comprehension by their intended audience. it'll be interesting to see how that filters up.
