The #Monongahela National Forest claims there is no hardwood #OldGrowth in the #Forest. Not sure why when they've seen the stand of dozens of 150-260 year old #trees near Camp Horseshoe. And other stands here fit the Old Growth definition by the @forestservice & @BLMNational
@LisaKFrank1 Justified as creating more "young forest". As if we need that. Already 30% of forest in this area is less than 20 years old. Project is targeting oldest trees and on steep slopes of 50-70% Project is planning on losing $1.2 million of taxpayer $. All round makes no sense.
Unfortunately the article presents some incomplete information. When accounting for all logging the amount of "young forest" is actually 30% in the project area.

@forestservice Often recycled? How often? We have a cut tree every year and enjoy it grearly but is this really in the F.S. wheelhouse? Maybe some branch of the F.S. I'm unaware of.
Will @ForestService announcement to better protect and manage Old Growth #forest stop the #clearcutting of mature and #OldGrowth on steep slopes in the #UpperCheatRiver Project? Only if the Monongahela N.F. admits there is Old Growth here. https://t.co/pf1w2jsHrg

Citizens within the #UpperCheatRiver Project area ask for no clearcuts on slopes over 40% and a greater focus on runoff reduction. As floods wipe out their pastures the @forestservice plans to #clearcut 3,500 acres of #forest in the watershed. 1,576 acres of that on slopes >50%
#Clearcutting on 40%- 65% slope! That's what the @forestservice proposes in the #UpperCheatRiver project to clearcut 3,500 acres of the Monongahela N.F. Analysis shows that 63% of stands to be #clearcut have slopes 40% or more. The stand already cut below has slopes of 40%-65%

Sometimes, late at night, I dream of a time when #trees are respected for their elder-hood and that our appetite for energy (i.e. E=MC^2) will be constrained. I hope and pray that that time is in our future.
Concerned citizens say they are encouraged by news that the West Virginia Division of Highways will consider a northern route for Corridor H from Parsons to Davisโavoiding splitting the towns of Thomas and Davis and impacting the Blackwater Canyon area. https://t.co/DVTyxXTFcR
