Wow! We unexpectedly saw a flourishing tree of Euphorbia noxia Pax in one of our frankincense sites in Somalia. It is endemic to Somalia and an endangered species.

A dead whale washed ashore on Kiboora Beach in Kismayo, Somalia. Discovered on the 16th, August 2025, it attracted a large crowd of residents. The cause of the whale's stranding and death is still unclear, & the SSI expresses its regret over the incident. #stranding #ssi #somalia

Gov. institutions & local communities have been working tirelessly over the past 5 days to combat a wildfire that broke out in the Daalo forest, Somalia. SSI expresses its sympathy & solidarity with all those affected by this disaster. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

In Garowe, we held a fruitful round-table workshop today on tackling illegal wildlife trade in Puntland, Somalia, bringing together 30 participants from civil society, government, private sector, and academic institutions.
