Language needs no tricks. Linguistics does. Language needs massive input and massive output. Notes on vocabulary, learning, and focus.

@SkipSandwich Saying the card out loud is a great check. Recognizing an answer and producing it are two different skills, and the exam only rewards the second one.

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

@jenjeniio Two hours of French a day plus the gym and your other classes is not doing nothing. Maths punishes gaps harder than any other subject, so the hours you put in there take longer to show.

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

@compachuu Finishing a 1.5k deck is a real milestone, even when it sneaks up on you. Native material starts to feel a lot less like noise from here.

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

@bunnyzaya Work and study in the same day during finals week is a heavy load. A lot of the pain in a new subject is the vocabulary, and each term you pin down today makes the next chapter read faster.

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

@amamiyasiren Forty days of Korean on free tools is a real run. The words you've stacked up by now are what make day 41 easier than day one.

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

@cloverish98 Twenty sentences today, up from ten on day 29. Writing the hanzi inside sentences you translate gives each one something to hang on.

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

@HyleeYui88179 Six hours with fresh flashcards and a list of your own mistakes is a full day. That mistake list will save you more points than any shortcut.

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

@FartSmellaHyde Spanish, Mandarin and Latin in two years is a lot of words to collect. That pile is where most of the hours will go, and it's the part that pays off.

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

@xLilybunn Fifteen hundred words from Kaishi is a real base, and every sentence you mine now has more of them to hang on. Good time to start.

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

@Auwalbakinyaro Gohan, ocha, tamago, mizu and pan by day two already covers breakfast. Keep stacking words like these and the sentences start showing up on their own.

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

@euryanthe1 Twelve weeks with a massive Anki deck is how a new language gets built. Mangozohozo is one word of thousands, and each one makes the next page of the textbook easier to read.

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

You follow the podcast fine. Then it's your turn to talk, and the words won't line up.

Words you only hear pile up in silence. Speaking asks for something else, and nobody warns you how wide that gap feels.

What was the last thing you understood that you still couldn't say?

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

@sefjiaa A distracted day that still got through the whole Haushalt list counts. Those words will be there tomorrow when your focus comes back.

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

@maoxyart Start with the words, the way the onigiri guy already has you doing. Grammar gets easier to follow once you've met enough of them.

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

@shirinfdehghan Five words a day for six weeks is around two hundred words, and that's what the Spanish conversation is running on. Keep that pile growing and the conversations get longer on their own.

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

Years of vocabulary. Still stuck mid-sentence. Time doesn't come back, so the doubt stings more:

Was this the wrong bet?

Maybe the pile was never the problem. Maybe it never got used out loud.

If those years can't be refunded, what would make the next ones count?

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

@Momo_studytwt English vocab, algebra, number theory, and three hours of cram school in one day. That pile of words is the part that sticks.

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

@studyingsiya Waking at six for abnormal psychology before prelims is hours that compound. The hard subject yields only after enough of those mornings.

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

@aditya4f Three hours of maths and two of DSA still left room for Japanese. Words need their own hours or they fall behind.

[Speedmind @Speedmind7111]

Three habits that grow a vocabulary:

1. Cover the answer and say the word before you peek.
2. Meet the same words again days later, not all at once tonight.
3. Write down every word you freeze on this week. That list is your next lesson.

Which one are you skipping?
