Lawmakers are demanding answers from the U.S. Navy amid reports of a mental health crisis, including multiple attempted suicides, onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) currently deployed to the Middle East to support military operations and the ongoing naval blockade against Iran.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, wrote a letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao on Wednesday to express “serious concern” about reports involving a shortages of “basic supplies, water contamination, plumbing issues, deteriorating mental health, deck safety concerns” onboard the Lincoln.

According to reports from the Navy Times and Stars and Stripes, citing family members and spouses of Sailors assigned to the Lincoln, people aboard the ship are suffering from exhaustion, suicidal thoughts and low morale, with some alleging that Sailors have made multiple attempts to jump overboard requiring intervention from other Servicemembers.

Amid the wave of concerning reports from the Lincoln, Navy leadership met with the family of Sailors who are deployed aboard the Abraham Lincoln on Thursday in San Diego, listening to concerns and stories while pledging to support those onboard, according to Stars and Stripes.
