Keith Rabois (PayPal mafia, Founders Fund) says criticize in public, psychological safety is overrated on winning teams.

Surgery used to work that way. Feedback came straight, no cushion, in front of the team. "That was terrible. Your retraction sucks.” Or “Never do that again” during training.

We replaced it (or we are supposed to replace it) with feedback wrapped in platitudes. Are patients safer for it?
