@MatthewHalliday Other considerations: the original cost was 11 million in the 50s (= $128m value today). That's less than it cost to do "The Big Lift" ($150m) and WAYYY less than the forecasts for building a new bridge nowadays (estimates are $1 billion+). So, no kidding gov can't afford it.
