@ger_cosgrove I'm well aware of this, and just to be clear I fully support Ireland having a properly equipped airlift capability.
A few C390s and a second hand A320 / A330 or similar wouldn't go amiss.
🚨🇮🇪 NEW: Ireland is chartering an A330 from Muscat to bring back 280 vulnerable Irish citizens from the Middle East
The Irish government will contact those chosen tomorrow

@dohville All of which can be done of course, and can be done in parallel with one and other. Wether the department sees it that way is an entirely different story.
@dohville The difference here would be needing to build the necessary infrastructure, which Croatia already had (hangers, parts/weapons stores, command structure for radar data to feed into, etc) all of which we are building from scratch, on top of acquiring jets and training personnel.
@Red_Hanrahan@GCraughwell@defenceforces I will assume you’re not implying that I’m ameliorating anyone, as I’m not. And to imply that I’m delusional is childish.
Can I ask then why do you bother commenting on any matters on Irish defence seen as you believe nothing will ever improve?
Trying out a new way of showing my liveries.
This video linked below, showcases a speculative Leonardo M-346FA in Irish Air Corps colours.
I plan to do this for other aircraft as well, seen as the M-346FA arguably isn’t best suited for Irelands needs.

@DillonOMalley4 Regarding helicopters and transports I can totally see the sense in it, but the M346 just hasn’t got the speed at altitude to serve our needs as an interceptor, at least not for rogue aircraft. Slow movers and maybe an airliner it could do at a push.
A thread 🧵:
Something a bit different this time, taking a more alt history approach to this livery.
🇮🇪Irish Air Corps F-5E Tiger II, No.2 Wing, 201 Fighter Squadron, Shannon Air Station, c.2004
I wanted to give a backstory to an Irish F-5 as it seemed a fitting type..1/16
@Thomas977673521@DillonOMalley4 The issue with the Typhoon was always its very high maintenance costs. Any fighter we do end up getting preferably needs to be relatively cheap to maintain.
2nd hand F-16s id argue is still an option though many fear having an all American jet in todays climate isn’t workable.
@DillonOMalley4 The M346 is a great aircraft but Ireland needs something supersonic capable to conduct air intercepts. That’s just the unfortunate reality. If it were 10, or 15 years ago then the M346 seems like a much more appealing option.
Nowadays you’re talking FA-50 as the baseline.
@dohville Thanks Seamus. Ive heard stories of a lot of types that were informally trialed by AC pilots down through the years usually during air show visits, L159, hawks, alpha jets, MB339s, the list goes on!
I think the L159 was the closest to happening. @donlav any other types I missed?
..military aviation as they were Irelands first true fighter aircraft, finally bringing the Irish Air Corps into the fast jet game. The aircraft quickly became a favourite among pilots and technicians due to its relative simplicity, serving as an ideal jump from the Fouga. 16/16
The squadron would achieve Initial Operational Capability a year later in 2004 as the final aircraft were delivered later that year. They were designated the F-5E(I), with the “I” standing for the updated Irish model of the aircraft.
The F-5E(I) marked a new era for Irish..15/16
