Dead Man’s Fingers along the Laguna Madre coastline?! The Black Mangrove plant has aerial (above ground) roots that allow it to collect oxygen. These roots are a.k.a. “Dead Man’s Fingers”. They are able to take up saltwater, use the water, and put the salt out onto their leaves.

This is BIG PADRE! He is an American Alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) and weighs about 800lbs. Seems like he wants a backrub. Any volunteers?
