The researcher and Nahuatl scholar Robert H. Barlow, friend and executor of H.P. Lovecraft's estate, collected testimonies from inhabitants near Mount Tlaloc during his anthropological research in the Texcoco region. This mountain, an ancient site of worship for the rain god in pre-Hispanic times, reported that in very recent years, infant sacrifices had been performed there to ensure good harvests.
In the 1950s, Charles Wicke and Fernando Horcasitas compiled a second testimony stating that the last human sacrifice performed on Mount Tlaloc, at least to the informant's knowledge, took place in 1887.
