I didn't.

I took ~20 trades over the course of the entire year, and although I ended the year profitably, the gains were fairly small

of the 20 trades I did take, a majority of them were concentrated during ~4 months out of the year [which just so happen to be the only periods where the market wasn't going straight down]

which means for most of the year I was doing absolutely nothing at all

the criticism I got at the time was: "You watched the market every single day, and didn't trade it? seems like wasted effort to me."

my counterargument is: "You spent all day, every day, glued to your screens during a bull market. But when the frequency of opportunities declines and the potential reward from those opportunities shrinks, you continue spending the exact same amount of time staring at those screens? That seems inefficient and unwise to me."

I'm not here to convince you that I'm right - trying to red-pill people on the way I trade is a fruitless labor. the only person's trading one should be worried about is themselves.

I just feel I've found a nice balance between 'obsession' vs. 'addiction', and maybe my perspective will prove to be enlightening for some that read this.

when the market doesn't require as much of my attention, I don't give it as much

that seems very sensible to me.

by the time FTX had blown up, and the dust had settled, as the market was showing life again, I was ready and prepared to bid; I had given myself the luxury of a mindset that was fresh and recouped, and detached from trauma or the urgency to revenge-trade

that proved to be a necessary edge to navigate the bullmarket thereafter, providing a cushion mentally, as well as monetarily, to 'play around' with, without feeling any desperation for trades to work. I was able to take risks and humbly accept them before they came into fruition

and they never came into fruition; the market decided to trend higher instead. for the first time in a long time.

I've lived a similar story in 2026, with the exception that I've been trading the stock market as of recent as a reflection of there "always being a bullmarket somewhere"

my gains have been decent; the trades that have won have done exceptional well, and although my win-rate has been subpar, my effort has been minimal.

and when the time is right, I'll press the issue once again

the market always rhymes; better days are coming soon enough

the same thing will happen once again, and those who've waited in anticipation will enable themselves the possibility of doing well

but in my experience, if you want to win, you have to first learn how to do nothing at all.
