I've seen a lot of opinions about Coach Savage lately.

Everyone is entitled to their own.

I can only speak from my experience.

Coach Savage was one of the best coaches I've ever played for.

Not because he won games.
Not because he developed players.
Not because he built a great program.

Those things matter.

But that's not why.

What stood out to me was the person.

He cared.
He worked.
He held people accountable.

And he genuinely wanted what was best for his players.

Even after your playing days were over.

He's the type of coach you could call years later and he'd still try to help.

The type of coach who cared about the person, not just the player.

I think that's one of the reasons @UCLABaseball has such a strong reputation.

Programs don't build great brands by accident.

They build them through people.
Through standards.
Through relationships.
Through coaches who invest in players long after the final game is over.

Double-A Hartford RHP Jake Brooks has been named the Rockies Organization Pitcher of the Month for April after posting a 3.91 ERA (23.0 IP, 10 ER) with five walks, 31 strikeouts and a 1.00 WHIP in five starts … the 24-year-old led the Eastern League in strikeouts during the month and was tied for sixth in innings pitched … recorded a 0.82 ERA (11.0, 1 ER) with one walk, 20 strikeouts and a 0.64 WHIP in his first two starts of the season … had a career-high 11 strikeouts across six innings on April 9.
