This insane plan to blackmail and twist Ukraine’s arm — a scheme as foolish as it is detached from reality — will go down as one of the most disgraceful episodes in the history of global diplomacy.

And it is something far more sordid than the infamous Munich Agreement before the Second World War — for there, at least, Chamberlain and Daladier sincerely hoped they could buy peace from a monster at a small price and thus prevent another global catastrophe. And later, they had the honor to acknowledge their fatal mistake.

And here, today, we see an irresponsible and incompetent demagogue who, despite all his bluster and empty talk, has suffered a complete fiasco, and now seeks to wash his hands of it by blaming a nation under attack in the largest war in Europe since Adolf Hitler. And then, with astonishing cynicism, reaches eagerly for the financial handouts offered by the aggressor.

This is the lowest point in the modern history of the West.

Today, Russia struck Ukrainian cities, resulting in over 170 injuries. As of now, 37 fatalities have been reported, including three children. My condolences go out to their families and loved ones.

In total, nearly 100 facilities were damaged, including a children's hospital, ordinary houses, kindergartens, a maternity hospital, a college, and a business center. The rubble is still being cleared at these sites.

Russian terrorists must be held accountable for this. Mere concern does not stop terror. Condolences are not a weapon. We need to shoot down Russian missiles. Russian combat aircraft must be destroyed where they are based. Strong steps must be taken to eliminate any security deficit.

The world has the necessary strength to do this. Our partners are capable of making it happen. Decisions are needed as soon as possible.
