The economic and demographic effects of corruption.

Cost of land in our urban areas is far higher than what our GDP per capita would dictate. The ratio of land value to per capita GDP is probably higher in India than anywhere else. As an example, land prices in Chennai or Bengaluru rival that of cities like New York which has a vastly higher per capita GDP.

The key reason?

First, vast sums of political corruption money is parked in real estate. This raises real estate prices and high real estate prices affect everything downstream.

Second, corruption in building approvals and the like - the famous DTCP - raises construction costs, on top of already higher real estate costs.

Third, corruption in private school regulatory compliance enforcement raises school fees.

Fourth, corruption in private hospital regulatory compliance enforcement raises health care costs.

Fifth, household goods need sales outlets and those pay higher rents due to high real estate prices and construction costs.

So housing, education, healthcare and household goods - all of these now cost higher.

As a direct consequence, the economic burden on the average person gets worse. Young people, facing all these costs, postpone marriage, and postpone children or have fewer children.

That directly affects our demographics.

While this issue exists in many parts of India, Tamil Nadu, being the most urbanized of the bigger states, is particularly hit hard.

So corruption is becoming an existential threat to our society.

If you worry about the super-low birth rate in Tamil Nadu, way below replacement, understand that corruption raising our cost of living is one of the major causes, not the only cause, but a big one in our context.

But she chose not to go.

She questioned herself: Why should I leave my village and go abroad for studies? Why can't I use my education and start building something here?

Being a daughter of a farmer, she had witnessed the challenges that farmers faced. Despite months of hard work, many farmers struggled to earn fair prices for their crops due to middlemen and fluctuating market conditions. So She decided to explore whether technology and entrepreneurship could help create better opportunities in agriculture.

She then started documenting her life on social media. Then, one of her videos on turmeric cultivation went viral. Along with the attention came an unexpected opportunity, people wanted to buy turmeric directly from her family's farm.

Now, she has launched Induru Farms and started selling products online. She procures produce directly from farmers and delivers it to end consumers. Today, she is successfully running her business across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Bengaluru, Chennai, and other cities.

Passion with a purpose is a privilege.

Had a series of meetings today regarding formation of the new TTMARS( #Telangana Traffic Management And Road Safety Bureau), the Telangana Anti Drug And Safety Clubs (TADASC) and the Vigilance and Enforcement Wing(VEEW) and the various aspects of the GO s to be issued for them and the manpower to be allotted to them to get them started , through the withdrawal of some staff from the Greyhounds - Octopus - SIB- Security Wing.

It was severe brainstorming with the officers and fruitful sessions. There is some thought of forming a new anti food adulteration wing also because of the increase in cancer cases being reported in the state.

Congratulations to a true Telangana Singam, a fearless woman police officer who chose the streets over comfort, duty over publicity( like other officers), and courage over fear.

Standing alone in the night as an ordinary woman, she exposed an uncomfortable reality: within just three hours, nearly 40 men approached her. This was not merely an undercover operation; it was a mirror held up to society.

Policing is not only about uniforms, weapons, or law books. Sometimes it is about empathy, commitment, and the willingness to experience what ordinary women go through every day. Such officers redefine public service.
Telangana Police has often shown innovation and sensitivity in women’s safety initiatives, and officers like her are the real strength behind that reputation. Their courage sends a powerful message @SumathiIPS the state is watching, listening, and standing with women.
