MAKING A DASH
A young Australian sea lion makes a dash from the dunes to the sea. Primarily designed for swimming, it is alarming to see how fast these animals can move on land when they feel the need.

TUCKED AWAY
The Australian pelican is a much-loved bird. I often sit for hours with these birds, watching their artful contortions as they stretch and preen. Or, in this case, simply snuggle up and take a nap.

these brightly coloured birds
fold back their flying feathers
while dashing down the rainbow,
on what must surely be
an unending quest
to try to catch the sun.

FLIGHT DEPARTING FROM NOOSA QUEENSLAND
Little Red Flying Foxes may form camps as large as 100,000 animals. They hang in camps during the day and leave to feed on nectar usually at or just after sunset each day. A spectacular nightly event.
