Spoken Giants has distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars in Mechanical Royalties each of the last two years. A Public Performance license will return even more money to comics in the near future.

Under copyright law, two types of royalties are generated each time a comic’s recording is played on digital radio like SiriusXM, Pandora Radio or iHeart Radio. One royalty is for the sound recording and a second royalty is for the Literary Work.

A: Yes, spoken word content is protected by the same copyright law that protects music. (1/3)

Q: Have you drafted that legislation yet? That seems to be a hang-up.
A: No legislation is needed, section 115 of the US copyright law protects the literary work of content fixed and distributed in a digital format. (2/3)

A comedian’s original jokes, and other stories fixed in a tangible format, (i.e. written or recorded) are protected under United States copyright law as Literary Works.

Spoken Giants is here to help comedians & other Spoken Word copyright owners collect royalties for the writing of their work. This is just like a songwriter gets paid when a song is streamed or broadcast.
