💡Today's Domaining Tip 💡
I had this question : Why isn’t ‘chat’ showing as a trending keyword even though everyone registered chat domains?
1️⃣ Zone Files ≠ Search Trends
The ICANN Zone File is a list of *active* domains in each TLD (.com, .net, .xyz, etc.).
It doesn’t show "who searched" or "when they registered" only "what exists right now". So if “chat” domains were registered months or years ago, they’re already in the zone, not "newly added".
2️⃣ Trending Keywords = What’s Newly Registered, When I track "trending keywords" I compare "new entries" in zone files daily or weekly changes. If no "new" “chat” domains are being added (because most are already taken), it won’t appear "trending"
3️⃣"Expired Domain Filtering" : When we filter expired domains by “TLDs taken” we’re spotting "strong, saturated keywords", terms already used across many extensions (.com, .io, .ai, etc.). Those are "historically valuable" not necessarily "currently trending"
4️⃣ "Chat" Example: After ChatGPT exploded, almost every "chat+keyword" combo got registered fast, across all TLDs. Now, It’s saturated or not Trending since ChatGpt and the big 4 took all chat features, so not trending.
5️⃣In Contrast: Newer hot terms like ai, bet...keep showing up in zone deltas (new adds), so they’re seen as trending.
6️⃣ In short:
Trending = new zone entries,
Valuable = taken across TLDs
Expired = potential to re-own those proven terms
So when you don’t see "chat" trending, it’s not dead.
💡 Real insight comes from reading both - trends AND saturation.

💡 Today’s Domaining Tip💡
There’s no such thing as a “small” sale.
Big companies make billions on 3% margins, while many domainers chase x1000 flips.
If you’re just starting out and haven’t made a sale yet, list your names at $99 / $199 / $299. Get that first win that’s how it begins.
Fun fact: Andrew Rosener started with $199 deals back then. Don’t overthink it. Just do it. 🫡
“Imitation is the best form of flattery”
If marketplaces are following in your footsteps,
it’s a sign you’re leading, and they’re behind.
Here’s a perfect example of Spaceship’s impact on the industry: other platforms are now trying to replicate it. But the question is... why now?
This is how I imagine the situation...
Domainers:
"Hey domain platforms, you should put some effort into making better landers for us, because what you’re offering looks outdated and visually poor."
Domain platforms:
"Why should we spend time and resources making better-looking landers if no one else in the market is offering that? It probably won’t make a difference—not for buyers, and not in the number of sellers choosing our landers."
Richard from Spaceship:
"No one in the market is offering a fair lander for domainers that actually matches the design standards of the modern era. That’s reason enough to build it myself."
Two Doritos later...
Domain platforms:
"Why is everyone moving to Spaceship? Why is there so much buzz?... Oh! It’s because their landers actually work and deliver a UX for 2025, while ours look like they’re still stuck in 2000. Let’s copy the same thing—just change the colors so it doesn’t look too obvious."
This is a simplified way of showing how #domain platforms got too comfortable for too long. They won’t make changes unless someone else does it first, starts taking more market share every month, and forces them to compete out of desperation, just to avoid becoming irrelevant.
Keep going, @spaceship—the whole domain industry is following you, competitors included 😂
