Congratulatory messages are pouring in for the new Puri-Koraput Express. Praiseworthy, though I have doubts about its viability and patronage.
What about demanding routes?
Services to north India, barring Delhi, is exceptionally poor from Puri/BBS.
We still do not have direct links to Chandigarh, Jammu or Dehradun.
There is also a long pending demand for direct service from Puri to Mata Vaishno Devi Katra in larger interest of pilgrims, but railways have consistently ignored it.

Remember she frowning at me: “who cares about Odisha. Move out of that mindset. Think of bigger goals”, beyond your state.

A new airport for Puri is on the horizon.

Will airlines come?
Even with strong passenger growth, Bhubaneswar airport continues to grapple with retaining routes and expanding connectivity. Aviation is not just about infrastructure, it’s about sustained demand, airline economics, and long-term viability.
So, does Puri hold a unique pull powerful enough to change that equation?
Or are we building ahead of demand, hoping traffic will follow?
Development is essential. Vision is admirable.
