My newest paper (with co-author Bira Zhahadai) has been published online at the @EEJ_easternecon (Eastern Economic Journal). We quantify the growth in GDP in Chile after the Chicago Boys implemented their free market reforms. Within 10 years of their reforms real GDP per capita was 30% greater than Chile's counterfactual (created using the Synthetic Control Method).
Like we are seeing in Argentina today, eliminating international trade restrictions, eliminating price controls, reducing regulation, privatizing previously nationalized industries, returning schools to local control, reducing the excessive printing of money, and reducing fiscal spending/deficits (along with numerous other reforms) has been a recipe for economic prosperity.
