There’s nothin’ like playing at home. There’s nothing like being 16 years old and having to sell a certain amount of tickets so you can play inside the Pony, and it’s just your cousins at the show,” the band’s frontman Jack Antonoff said during the Shadow of the City Festival at Stone Pony Summer Stage. “There’s nothing like playing in the place you wrote the songs from. There’s nothing like going through a lot, then being reunited with your people. It means the world, everybody. It means the world to be supported by you and my friends and my family.”

As Antonoff launched into a rendition of Tom Waits’ “Jersey Girl,” the crowd roared as #Springsteen joined the stage for the nostalgic number. Notably, while it’s one of Springsteen‘s most beloved songs about New Jersey, the track was actually written by Waits and appeared on his 1980 LP, Heartattack and Vine, inspired by his wife Kathleen Brennan.

Then a awesome version of Chinatown. Love seeing @springsteen and @jackantonoff so happy on stage and having a great time. I say it all the time. Nothing like the Asbury Park music scene in the world.

Another fascinating episode of the Spring-Nuts Cafe podcast with the awesome keyboardist for the legendary E Street Band Charlie Giordano! We spoke about everything from his days playing with Pat Benatar and Joe Cocker, leading into the Seeger Sessions and ultimately touring with Bruce and the Band.

Here is a snippet of the show where Charlie discussed when @springsteen made the call to Charlie to come in and sit in with the band as the irreplaceable Danny Federici was going for treatment at the time. Hearing the process from Charlie himself was emotional even for him. But in true Bruce form he made Charlie feel comfortable and accepted instantly.

Charlie is so humble and such a wonderful human being. It was a pleasure and honor to interview him and hear so many unknown stories from someone we don't hear from often. A absolute asset to a well oiled machine known as the E Street Band.

Western Stars is a beautifully cinematic song about aging, fading fame, loneliness, and holding onto the memories of who you once were.

Bruce sings through the character of an aging Western actor—a man who once had his moment in the spotlight but now lives largely in the shadow of his former life. He remembers when he was recognizable, when his career meant something, and when he even appeared alongside John Wayne. But those glory days have passed, and now he survives on smaller jobs, conventions, commercials and the occasional recognition from someone who remembers him.

What makes the song so moving is that Bruce treats this character with tremendous dignity. He isn’t bitter about getting older; he’s simply aware that time has moved on without him. The applause has faded, but the memories haven’t.

There’s also a deeper meaning beyond the aging actor. The “western stars” can represent all of us looking back at the brightest moments of our lives—the people we were, the dreams we chased, the love we experienced and the moments when we felt like the world was ours.

The line about waking up in the morning and having “another day” becomes especially powerful. Despite everything he’s lost, he’s still here. And sometimes, simply getting another sunrise is enough.

Western Stars is Bruce writing about what happens after the spotlight moves on—when the crowds disappear, youth fades and you’re left with your memories. But rather than mourning what’s gone, the song finds beauty and dignity in still being here, looking toward the horizon and appreciating another day beneath those western stars.

Love revisiting this album and remembering how truly beautiful it is.

A hilarious story told by Max on a "bet" Jay and Max had on how many bars on a segment of Born to Run has, who won that bet, and a hysterical story regarding Back in Your Arms. A must listen!!
