@ChesapeakeRoads What is with the city’s inability to pave a smooth road? The new pavement isn’t as “wavy” as the old patch job, but it’s still not much better. The brand new patch is bumpy and uneven. Who is signing this off and approving it? Who are the contractors?
@ChesapeakeRoads “Also included in the project is the at-grade replacement of the Chesapeake and Albemarle rail crossing with associated crossing gates, the extension of the box culvert, and the extension of the Mt Pleasant Road Widening Phase II sidewalk on the north side of the roadway.”
@ChesapeakeRoads Are the contractors going to level out the manholes? The new paving has created some pretty bad manhole drop offs and bumps along the road, along with some spotty transition areas between different paved segments. And the tracks are pretty bad. I assume this is getting fixed?
@ChesapeakeRoads Is this stretch going to ever be resurfaced? It has been absolutely terrible since the construction and potholes keep forming in the same places time and time again.
@eganist@FairfaxCountyPD Yep! The “reckless” speeders going 70-75 mph on that road would be far closer to an appropriate 65 mph or 70 mph limit, allowing the police to focus enforcement on the most egregious speeders - like this person, and not simply run a revenue maker nabbing people only 70-75 mph.
@thewall@VonBelserII@FairfaxCountyPD No, when the average speed of traffic is >70 mph, going 55 mph is a hazard. The speed limit is too low, it should be
65 mph… it is west of the airport.
Not justifying 100 mph, that is reckless and 100% deserves a ticket, but 55 mph is too slow.
@VaDOTNOVA DYK all vehicles, regardless of occupancy, could travel toll free on the I-95 and I-395 express lanes without any transponder outside of peak hours until just several years ago?
@ChesapeakeRoads@AboutChesapeake You closed the turn lane into the Kroger shopping center on Mt. Pleasant. The result? A mile long backup in the PM rush hour. Which traffic engineer signed off on this? And for what? Some cones in an open lane? This is ridiculous.
@VaDOTNOVA@NVTAuthority And yet the speed limit on this limited access freeway will still remain a disgustingly low 50 mph, and @FairfaxCountyPD will continue to aggressively enforce it and call it “safety”. If it was safety, the speed limit would be 65 mph with reckless (85+) speeders targeted.
@vagirl12366_d@yyz4260@WAVY_News Virtually any other urban area in the country, outside of the Northeast (which is worse with speed limits), has 65 and 70 mph speed limits on urban highways, and they operate without any issues. It simply brings the speed limit closer to reality, and cuts down on law violators.
@vagirl12366_d@yyz4260@WAVY_News Dozens of professional studies showing traffic is safer when all vehicles are going similar speeds. Speed limits on the interstates should be set based off 85th percentile speeds. Majority of the highways here have 70 mph design speeds, and most (85th %) are going those speeds.
All because one guy wanted to turn left (as do several people), there’s no room to pass on the right, and he was only able to go when the light turned red cause of heavy westbound traffic. Two or three people ran the light after. That’s all made it through one cycle. Fix. This.
