I like the Joe Brolly video because it shows again that people who talk the most about kindness, empathy etc are always always motivated by the exact opposite and are always boiling over with neurotic sourness, spite, cruelty
Note the heavily loaded language. It’s always conservative cardinals who engage in ‘politicking’. And those cardinals are worried by more than danger to ‘the Church’s traditions’ – though they certainly are endangered. Francis threatened the foundations of Christianity itself with his ‘confusion about the importance of a strict monotheism’, to quote the Demos memo. I’m sick of the lazy media assumption that critics of Francis are ‘rolling back’; the nascent revival in the Church, in its reinvigoration of tradition, is moving *forward* while the Synodal dinosaurs fall back on the outmoded jargon of their own youth, meaningless to today’s young Catholics.
Remembering @rtenews coverage of Covid 19, the call for the unvaccinated to be “compelled” to stay at home at prime time, the daily figures of the “infected” “, platforming ZeroCovid fanatics, simultaneously seeking emergency funding from the Government, receiving it, becoming an unquestioning vehicle of government propaganda…

If you’re someone who is (justifiably) upset about elements of Irish society being hostile towards Jews, maybe don’t respond to that by generalising about “the Irish” and displaying your own ignorance about, & hostility toward, an entire country. Just a tip…
In honour of the Guardian announcing it was leaving X
I thought it was the right time to look back on some of their classic headlines 🧵

Just saw “Conclave.” If you are interested in a film about the Catholic Church that could have been written by the editorial board of the New York Times, this is your movie. The hierarchy of the Church is a hotbed of ambition, corruption and desperate egotism, Conservatives are xenophobic extremists and the liberals are self-important schemers. None can escape this irredeemable situation. The only way forward is the embrace of the progressive buzz words of diversity, inclusion, indifference to doctrine, and the ultimate solution is a virtue signaling Cardinal who takes the Papal name of Innocent and who is a biological female. Since it checks practically every woke box, I’m sure it will win a boatload of awards, but my advice is to run away from it as fast as you can.
I'd say something about the fall in editorial standards at Nature, but people in the Southern Hemisphere might mistake that for the spring. #inclusionmatters
On this anniversary of 7 October, @BBCNews has not featured the torture, sexual violence, execution of parents in front of their children and children in front of their parents, bodies burnt to ash, young people chased for sport, scores of mutilated female bodies… why not?
Case in point: there's no way to build a backdoor that only the "good guys" can use.
When the entire technical community says that the EU's ChatControl legislation + similar pose serious cybersecurity threats, we're not exaggerating for effect.
@TheEconomist Hezbollah retaliated yesterday by joining Iran in firing rockets into Israel: does that mean it was premature to have speculated the day before yesterday about how Hezbollah might retaliate?
@TheEconomist Why is it premature to speculate? Do you know when any such retaliation might be carried out? What if tomorrow? If so, would it still have been premature to have speculated today? When do you speculate it will be timely to speculate how they'll retaliate? #journowaffle
