Christmas is not a serene fairytale. The thread of God's salvation plan was stitched through dark cloth. But it did not break.

On Father's Day I'm thankful for
my father who is now at home with his heavenly father
for the privilege of being father to such wonderful gracious children
for father figures in my life who have challenged loved and prayed for me
For my Heavenly Father who is faithful always
Enjoying pondering on The Mindfulness Of God. Not one of the best known of his attributes but precious and repeatedly referred to in the Bible, not least in Luke 1, as Mary sang "my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour because he had been mindful of me...."
@glenscrivener One of my favourite hymns inclds:
Should earthly pleasures wane, and joy forsake me,
and lonely hours of pain at length oโertake me;
my hand in thine hold fast till sorrow be oโerpast,
and gentle death at last for heaven awake me.
Yes gentle death because it is in Jesus' hands
@DrMarkPickett Good question, but would Charles Wesley: a) be thrilled to have his line credited to Watts, b) be annoyed that he was forgotten, c) assume it was a deliberate attempt for a Calvinist to steel all the best hymns?
Very struck by the powerful, poignant description of trust in God in George Herbert's Temper:
Yet take thy way; for sure thy way is best:
Stretch or contract me thy poor debtor:
This is but tuning of my breast,
To make the music better.
