On an equally serious note, remarks like these only rub salt into the wounds of those who have suffered. They display a shocking lack of empathy and responsibility from someone holding the highest office in the state.

But don’t expect the self-appointed custodians of students’ interests, or Tihar returnee Arvind Kejriwal, to utter a word about Punjab. Their outrage appears to be highly selective, guided more by political convenience than by genuine concern for students or victims.

Now that the protests are over, it is worth separating genuine student concerns from the political machinery that sought to exploit them.

Before anyone remembers this as an “apolitical movement”, it is important to recognise the umbilical cord that connected its leadership with the Aam Aadmi Party. Many of its prominent faces had long-standing associations with Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, having worked with the AAP leadership or occupied political positions linked to the party. What was projected as a spontaneous students’ movement increasingly came to be fronted by seasoned political activists rather than ordinary students.

That is not to say every participant had political motives. Many young people joined with genuine concerns. Others were emotionally persuaded that they were part of a larger cause. They deserve empathy, not cynicism. But history suggests that once the headlines fade, many will realise they were used to advance the interests of political actors rather than the interests of students.

The answer to India’s educational challenges will not come from orchestrated agitation or political theatre. It will come through sustained reforms, institution-building and long-term investment. Over the past twelve years, the Modi government has consistently worked towards expanding opportunities, strengthening educational infrastructure and improving the ecosystem for future generations.

This generation is impatient, and understandably so. Many have not experienced the policy paralysis and neglect of earlier decades. That makes it even more important for us to engage with them, address their concerns respectfully, and demonstrate through facts and outcomes the value that is being created. India deserves informed debate, not manufactured outrage.

Shocking to see Saurav Das attempting to justify violence and sexually abusive conduct directed at women journalists as some kind of expression of anger. Equally telling was the moment “Dipke” charged towards the person handling the sound system simply because the microphone malfunctioned briefly. If this is how they react to the smallest inconvenience, can such brash, intolerant, and intemperate men in their mid-30s seriously claim they have the temperament to solve the complex challenges facing millions of students?

We have seen such “revolutions” before. Anna Hazare’s India Against Corruption movement ultimately gave rise to Tihar returnee Arvind Kejriwal, who later faced corruption allegations and was jailed while under trial. History suggests that movements built around personalities and outrage often produce fleeting political careers rather than lasting solutions. Many of yesterday’s celebrated agitators have faded from public relevance after the initial spectacle subsided.

The greater tragedy is the message this sends to impressionable young students. When aggression, intimidation, and abusive behaviour are normalised in the name of activism, it corrodes the very values a student movement should stand for.

Meanwhile, watch this clip and note the striking hypocrisy. When asked to cite even a single instance of these protesters demanding the resignation of the Education Ministers of Punjab or Karnataka after paper leak controversies in those states, the AAP proxy had no answer. Obfuscation spoke louder than any slogan.
