Squamish Fire Rescue is on scene at a large vehicle fire, located at the intersection of Vancouver St and Loggers Lane in Downtown Squamish.
We are asking the public to avoid the area as our crews work to extinguish and overhaul the fire.
Squamish Fire Rescue wants to remind drivers that children are back at school this week and school speed zones are back in effect.
Our crews will be participating in Safe Walk at schools this week (September 3-6) making sure that students make it to school safely.
Effective Wednesday, August 28 at noon, the campfire ban will be lifted within the District of Squamish boundaries.
Campfires within Squamish are only permitted with a residential campfire permit on private property.

Squamish Fire Rescue deployed a crew of 3 to assist BC Wildfire Service with the Birkenhead Lake wildfire in Pemberton.
This wildfire along with the rapidly expanding Elaho Valley fire, are in close proximity to Squamish, which is resulting in visible smoke locally.
The BC Wildfire Service has now upgraded Squamish to an EXTREME fire danger rating.
During periods of heightened fire hazards, certain work activities within the wildland interface may contribute to the creation of fires.

A heat warning has now been issued for Squamish by Environment/Natural Resources Canada. This is forecasted to continue for the next 7-10 days or longer.
Please be advised that new burning restrictions will likely be put in place on Monday, July 8.

BC Wildfire Service has now upgraded Squamish to a HIGH fire danger rating due to the extreme temperatures.
Forest fuels are very dry and the fire risk is serious! Fires may start easily, burn vigorously, and challenge suppression efforts.

Squamish Fire Rescue is on scene at a 2 car motor vehicle incident at Highway 99 S and Murrin Provincial Park.
Traffic control is in place to assist with alternating north and sound bound lanes.
Please be prepared for delays.

In less than 48 hours, Squamish Fire Rescue has responded to two wildland fires that were likely human caused due to illegal campfires being left unattended in forested areas.
Please be reminded that fires in any public space are prohibited in the DOS boundaries!
UPDATE: Debecks Hill Wildfire
Squamish Fire Rescue and the BC Wildfire Service have the contained the wildfire and are working to eliminate remaining hotspots throughout the evening.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Squamish Fire Rescue crews are currently on scene at Hwy 99 N and E Depot Rd for a brush fire.
We are working with BC Wildfire Service to bring in additional resources. Currently there is no risk to the public.
Please stay out of the trails in that area.
