4 years ago, I saw 3LAU giving away apes in his discord.
Ppl were trying to "bribe" 3LAU so I posted my wallet from his 2018 crypto music festival OMF to catch his attention....and the rest is history!
3LAU hooked it up with my ape & I've been in the club ever since! 🧡✊🍌
Some people contribute to the @BoredApeYC in one lane.
@apewhale contributes in many.
Whether it's building tools, supporting community initiatives, helping new members find their footing, or creating products that celebrate Ape culture, he's constantly showing up and making the ecosystem better for everyone around him.
Many Apes know him as the force behind @boringmerch, one of the premier merchandise manufacturers in the ecosystem. Through Boring Merch, he's helped bring countless ideas to life and has collaborated with numerous brands and communities throughout BAYC and beyond. From custom swag to official BAYC inventory, ApeWhale has helped turn digital communities into something tangible that people can wear, collect, and proudly represent.
But he didn't stop there.
He's currently working on an card set featuring the IP of Apes throughout the community. It's the kind of project that captures the creativity and culture that make this the best club on the internet, and we can't wait to see it come to life.
When it comes to protecting the community, ApeWhale stepped up once again by creating @AlertApes. The initiative helps identify bad actors and provides a database where members can research suspicious accounts and review evidence tied to reported behavior. In a space where trust matters, he's built tools that help keep fellow Apes informed and safer.
His impact on Welcome Apes cannot be overstated either.
ApeWhale has been with us since day one as a committee member. Long before the website existed, he secured the domain because he believed in what we were building. Over the years, he's consistently volunteered his time, ideas, and support whenever needed.
The funny thing is, none of these accomplishments fully capture who ApeWhale is.
He's the guy helping someone get set up in @OthersideMeta.
He's the guy making sure a new member has their BAYC profile properly configured.
He's the guy answering questions, making introductions, connecting people, and helping others succeed without asking for anything in return.
And if you've spent enough time around him, you've probably also been reminded that aquamarine is objectively superior to orange.
At the end of the day, ApeWhale represents something bigger than any single project. He embodies the spirit of picking up a shovel and contributing. He reminds us that the strength of this club has never come from the artwork alone. It comes from people who invest their time, energy, and talents into helping others.
He's a builder.
He's a supporter.
He's a protector.
He's the kind of Ape that makes this club better simply by being part of it.
Congratulations to ApeWhale, our June: Ape of the Month.
🍣🔥It's official... made it happen
Since my first month in NFTs (early 2022) I have held a BAYC ... when I acquired Quirkies in Sept letting go of my Ape was a sacrifice that had to be made
I've been waiting for my moment, the right ape, the right price, the right time
@mfigge taking over and @AdamWeitsman showing no signs of slowing down... it was time.
ETH down is scary but for me it was the opportunity to strike and thanks to @Disciple_13 I got an Ape that I really love.
My favorite colors Red and Blue to match my new @pudgypenguins ... favorite trait (Sushi) and 3D glasses imo are one of the best traits across all NFTs
Happy to be BAYC.
a personal update //
The only thing constant is change. I'm fully welcoming this period of change with the birth of my third child and have been bonding for the past couple of months.
During this period, I began to write the final lines of my story with @OpenPageHQ to bring that chapter to a close. To be clear, OP remains one of the top apps creators and collectors use to engage with avatars, wearables, badges and communities. And I'm very proud to have helped build one of the most ambitious creator communities with OP and @OtherSpaceFM.
When I joined CR3 Labs, a few of the questions were:
What does a universal avatar profile system look like? One that stays with you regardless of the platform you're participating in?
What does identity and digital reputation look like across IRL and virtual experiences?
How can a creator or team of collaborators build a community and understand who their truest fans are?
How can you acknowledge, engage and reward true fans and turn them into collectors and superfans?
How does ownership translate to your digital identity and avatar?
I'm proud of what we answered together.
We built tools that empowered creators and collectors. Hosting and sponsoring experiences, workshops, and building creative tech. We forged new paths with creative workflows, analytics, and tools.
We helped communities grow without ever needing a 10k drop, and gave creators the data to understand their truest fans.
We brought the culture of collecting onchain badges to ApeChain. Whether it's a digital experience or IRL, to this day the community still uses badges to reward fans, involve artists, and engage their people. It's part of our onchain legacy.
The UNCODED Series of OP Avatars. The 3D avatar and wearable system. Threejs, web-based, Otherside-compatible, interoperable from day one. Things I've dreamt of building, built with people I'll never stop being grateful for. This includes the OP team and those who built alongside us.
To everyone who participated, claimed a badge, created or minted a collectible, sent feedback: thank you. You all remind me of why I choose to show up every single day.
I believe in OP. The tech, the vision, and @0xm1kr. Not only a cracked dev, but one of the brightest minds I've ever met who actively pushes AI, 3D and blockchain tech in the best direction. This isn't goodbye to the project. Just to my chapter in it. I will continue to use the very tools we built because they remain that valuable.
What I've come to know about myself across these chapters: I get called when creators need an advocate, when new tools need someone who can speak both creative and technical, and when communities need to be built differently than what any playbook would suggest.
What's next, I'm figuring out. I'm taking my time while I bond with my kids, learn and create. But I'm making myself available to explore where creators, communities, and AI intersect next. 🫡
@mfigge@MakaveliDlaCruz Got it, so if my ape has been in 3-4 wallets all controlled by me over the past 5 years, I effectively have to connect each of those wallets to Glyph to prove that hold time?
This is not a breakup tweet. I’m not standing alone in the rain. Figge and I are still grabbing breakfast next Friday in LA.
I fully believe in the Club, Otherside, ApeChain, and ApeCoin.
I fully believe in Figge.
I’m proud of what we built at ApeCo.
I’m more proud of the people that made ApeCo hum. They deserve all the flowers.
What’s next for me?
I’ll still be here and will probably pick up whenever Figge calls. A guy needs to keep his merch hook up ya know.
Today we're making changes to ApeCoin.
Yuga Labs and ApeCo (fka Ape Foundation) coordinate, but operate in parallel. To keep the orgs and leaders in sync, a coordination tax is paid in additional handoffs and added decision-making checkpoints.
This made sense when the lack of regulatory clarity forced crypto to contort into strange formations just to ship.
That era is over, and we need to reset from first principles.
Simpler, with less coordination tax.
Cam helped build and lead ApeCo, and he’s fully aligned with me on this reboot. With the reset, the separate ApeCo lead role no longer makes sense in the same way. Cam is stepping down from that role.
The core ApeChain tech and BD teams will now work directly with Yuga, so the chain and its partners will be well served. Some other members of ApeCo will be departing - they’re really great people and we’re thankful for their hard work. This transition will be complete by June 5th.
ApeCoin should not feel like a separate bet from all the other progress Yuga is making with its brands. Everywhere else we are building holders with real conviction and ApeCoin will be no different.
So I’m currently planning a roadshow in June with key and prospective partners, exchanges, investors, institutions and community members in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taipei and Seoul. We’re going to show up in person and build the relationships that move BAYC, Otherside, and ApeCoin forward together.
This is a first step, but not the only step.
@tropicalvirtual@borednstone@thenineclub Right?! haha first time seeing that spot in a clip so hopefully there will be more to come, assuming that the spot is still like that. would be rad to see Bored N Stone keep popping up in parts and clips
Rad seeing Jeremy Leabres catch a clip in front of @borednstone in his new Glitched part, as discussed on the new Channel Nine episode by the @thenineclub 🔥 💨
As I write this, the reality still hasn’t fully set in. It was less than a month ago that Marc came to San Jose to hang out. He was sober, healthy, and full of life. We had a blast reminiscing about the old days. He seemed genuinely excited about the future. He even extended his ticket by a couple of days so he could explore some of the old haunts around San Jose.
When it came time to drop him off at the airport, he handed me an envelope. I waited until I got home to open it. Inside was a three-page list of his hopes and dreams for the future. Never in a million years did I imagine that less than a month later, he would be gone.
I met Marc when he was 17. I watched him achieve all his skateboard dreams, and I sat next to him at the Away Days premiere—only to later watch his career fall apart. I still don’t understand why my friend is gone at 49 years old. I don’t know why he chose to come visit me. Was there some bigger purpose to it, or was he looking for closure?
Marc was a genius and a tortured soul. He told me he wanted to be remembered for his skateboarding, not for his failures or shortcomings. He was just a poor kid from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, who grew up in a trailer at the end of a dirt road. Yet he made it out, traveled the world, and touched so many lives. He will live on through the video parts that nobody can recreate. He gave opportunities to people who might never have had a chance otherwise.
Without a shadow of a doubt, Marc Johnson was the single most influential person in my life. Everything he did was art. He was endlessly creative and always tried to elevate his friends and everyone around him. He opened doors for guys like me and Jerry, and single-handedly put San Jose back on the map. Marc had the golden touch—whether it was on a skateboard, creating brands, or developing ad campaigns.
Marc Johnson passed away today. He was one of the most talented and creative people to ever step on or off a skateboard.

LA meet-up was so fun!🐧🤝🐵✨
Amazing meetup w/ Pudgy LA and @ApeLosAngeles. Yes…apes and penguins DO get along.
So many great people, builders, and good vibes. Really appreciated all the awesome goodies too, from the @elevatedbath soaps, to the cool pins. Amazing seeing communities come together IRL like this.
Pudgys showed up and showed out! We also made sure the @mfigge (@BoredApeYC CEO) left with some @pudgypenguins goodies of course.🎁
And one of the coolest moments of the day… my penguin plush finally met the famous Pengu tattoo IRL.🐧 Amazing!
Big shoutout to @bigsaucedoteth and @seannana for taking the lead and bringing everyone together. Seriously appreciate the effort behind making this happen.
And yes…that Pudgy duffle bag arrived FULL of plushies and goodies and somehow left completely empty.😂 Hope everyone enjoyed the Pudgy surprises from @PenguJuiceCo.💙
More meetups to come frens.✨
