Analla had her spinal correction and fusion surgery in Crumlin on Thursday 21.11.2024.
We spent such a long time preparing and supporting her in what was ahead. It was all worth it.
Her surgery only took 6 hours on Thursday rather than the planned 11; and by Friday morning (Day 1) she was up out of the bed. She has been off the ketamine and morphine pump since yesterday Day 2.
She walked to the bathroom yesterday and to and from the bathroom today (Day 3).
She has all her cannulas and catheter out, just her central line.
She said that her heart and lungs don’t feel as pressured 🥹
Every small movement is exhausting and muscle stiffness is the hardest obstacle.
But she is amazing.

The bribery of €10 robux a trip to keep moving to and from the bathroom will have me bankrupt by the end of the week.

From the minute we arrived on Thursday the care we have experienced at the hands of the day surgical unit, the staff on St Joseph’s ward, from her surgeon and his SHO; in addition to the the play and physiotherapists has been beyond perfection: accommodating, patient and understanding to Anallas needs.

As I said before. The diagnosis of scoliosis is hard but can be treated and fixed. The trauma, stress, lack of accountability and clinical judgement failings by feed in services to orthopaedics, administration and senior management failings in CHI has been a million times worse so far.

We were never afforded the chance to avoid all this for her with conservative treatment.
Her life is changed forever. But we will take it one day at a time.

She is amazing. I am her voice but no child should NEED an advocate to get respectful, deserved, timely healthcare.
And no adult should ever be told that they are imagining the extent of their child’s health concerns.

My heart breaks for those who don’t know how to, or haven’t the power or energy to stand their ground and say ‘no…this isn’t good enough’
