Some believe the connection traces back to the 1700s when Cap. James Cook sailed the S. Pacific sea and came across the Maori. The men got tattoos as souvenirs of the there trip.

#TattooHistory.. Long before the Thermofax copier was used to make current day stencils, tattooers would make an Acetate stencil. A thin piece of plastic that an image was hand carved into, black power was rubbed into the image and transferred to the skin.

#TattooHistory..The Kewpie Doll was originally a comic strip in the early 1900s, illustrated by Rose O'Neill. Rose went on to be the highest paid illustrator of her time. In the mid 1900s Kewpies found there way into tattoo culture & remains an iconic image.
