The secret negotiations to free The Wall Street Journal’s Evan Gershkovich unfolded on three continents, involving spy agencies, billionaires, political power players and his fiercest advocate—his mom. https://t.co/0Um5yJWLD4
WSJ reporter Evan Gershkovich is free. This is a day of great joy and relief for Evan, his family, WSJ colleagues, and all those who campaigned so hard for his release. It is also a great day for press freedom. Follow the story here (no paywall)

70 WEEKS. Evan Gershkovich, a WSJ reporter, has been imprisoned in Russia for 70 weeks. It's hard to fathom. Take a moment to think about all that you have done in that time. Join us in calling for his immediate release #IStandWithEvan#FreeEvan#Journalismisnotacrime
Last week, @WSJ reporter Evan Gershkovich appeared in a Russian court for the start of a sham trial, his head shaved on order of prison authorities. I’m shaving mine in solidarity. Evan is a journalist and journalism is not a crime. #IStandwithEvan
"There is a striking lack of any factual or legal substantiation provided by the authorities of the Russian Federation," the U.N. panel said. The arrest of @WSJ's Evan Gershkovich was "designed to punish his reporting" on Russia-Ukraine #IStandWithEvan https://t.co/gGT1aGUjgt
Today, Dow Jones CEO and Wall Street Journal Publisher Almar Latour and Wall Street Journal Editor in Chief Emma Tucker released the below statement on @WSJ reporter Evan Gershkovich.

On Thursday, @WSJ ran this ad on A-4, showing the great @ailworth in her element: fireproof clothes & safety gear, ready to run toward danger for the story. Dogged and fearless. The same day, @DowJones laid her off.
@ailworth would be perfect in any newsroom. Just look at her.
60 WEEKS. Evan Gershkovich, a WSJ reporter, has been imprisoned in Russia for 60 weeks, without even a trial. At @WSJ's Future of Everything conference, attendees can leave a message for Evan. I hope he gets to hear them soon. #FreeEvan#IStandWithEvan
I always enjoy @WSJ’s Future of Everything Festival. Great convos that open my mind.
First up on my agenda this year:
@jtoonkel interviewing @jasonkilar about the future of media
401 DAYS. The ongoing wrongful detention of @WSJ reporter Evan Gershkovich in Russia should scare all of us. It's an attack on press freedom everywhere. I hope you'll join me in demanding his immediate release. #IStandWithEvan#FreeEvan#JournalismIsNotACrime
