As a teammate, as an opponent at times and, more importantly, as a brother, always uncondicional and eternal love.
Happy birthday hermano, miss you. šš¼ā¤ļø
The accusation that I am antisemitic is appalling and fundamentally dishonest. Criticizing the actions of the Israeli prime minister, a military technology contract, or the executives who supply it is not the same as criticizing Jewish people. This critical and necessary dialogue is then dishonestly framed as being anti-Israel.Ā To be clear, my views come from my own political convictions and should never be interpreted as hostility toward Jewish people, for whom I have deep love and respect.Ā Everything I know about acting, activism, and humanism has been profoundly shaped by the Jewish friends, colleagues, and loved ones who have been integral and family throughout every point of my life.
This merger has real consequences for real people, and for the entire country. Scrutinizing the Ellisons, including Oracleās business built on data, surveillance technology and government contracts, and the serious threat to editorial freedom and the loss of a livelihood for thousands of families, is fair and necessary. The $111 billion deal would hand one family control over CNN, HBO and Warner Bros., backed in part by foreign money whose influence on editorial decisions has never been fully explained to the public.Ā
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have called for serious national security review, and regulators still havenāt given the public a real answer. Until they do, the merger shouldnāt move forward.Ā Now is the time to dive boldly into all these issues, not step back or concede.
Iām 30 tomorrow so hereās everything Iāve learned up until this point.
Some of this might be obvious. Most of it probably is.
But if even one person younger than me reads this and it helps them then it was worth writing.
I got pretty famous and pretty rich when I was 18.
I made a LOT of mistakes.
Surprisingly, I have no regrets. Iām not bullshitting.
Everything I went through shaped who I am and somehow everything worked out the way it needed to.
Hereās what I learned.
Exercise. Get outside. Get some sun. Eat well. Love people. Have sex. Build relationships. Engage with your community.
Itās really that simple.
I spent years sitting in front of a gaming monitor, prioritizing money and work over my health and relationships.
I treated my body like shit.
Breakfast? 3 dabs and a few nicotine pouches.
Lunch? Dinner? DoorDash whatever garbage I could order and eat as fast as possible at the end of the day.
That was my routine for years.
I had moments of clarity during my 20s but I always ended up falling back into the same habits.
It wasnāt until I hit rock bottom that I finally took drastic action.
And honestly, thatās another reason I have no regrets.
Sometimes you have to completely fuck things up before youāre willing to change.
One thing Iāve thought about a lot recently is the constant āmen vs womenā discourse online.
I see stories every day about why men donāt need women, why women donāt need men, why relationships are a scam, why love is dead, etc.
Iāve read all of it.
Iām just as chronically online as you are.
But something I donāt see nearly as often is people in genuinely healthy relationships talking about how fucking incredible they can be.
Maybe it just doesnāt have enough shock value to make it onto your timeline.
So let me tell you:
The single greatest pleasure Iāve found in life is growing alongside someone Iām deeply and madly in love with.
The world can literally fall apart around you.
It has for me.
Multiple times.
Very publicly.
But when you have that one person beside you, somehow everything feels manageable.
The long walks. The late-night conversations. Cooking breakfast together.
Laughing at stupid shit.
Having someone who knows you better than almost anyone and still chooses you every day.
A healthy relationship that gets stronger and deeper over time has been the single greatest net positive in my life.
And if thereās one thing Iāll regret when Iām old, itās not spending more time with the people I love.
So for the younger guys reading this:
Let yourself fall in love.
Deeply.
Donāt be afraid of getting hurt.
Be an excellent partner.
Get her flowers.
Remember the little things.
Listen to her.
Make her feel wanted.
Make her laugh.
Make her orgasm, often.
Put effort into the relationship even after the honeymoon phase wears off.
If it doesnāt work out, so be it.
If you gave the relationship everything you had you can eventually make peace with it, heal, and move forward better than you were before.
And if you were a shitty boyfriend and she leaves you?
Learn from it.
Iāve been there.
Donāt turn your mistakes into bitterness. Turn them into growth.
Most importantly, donāt buy into the bullshit that love is dead or love isnāt real.
Love is probably the most real thing that exists.
One last thing:
A lot of you are lacking perspective.
Go volunteer at an elderly home.
Go spend time with disabled people.
Talk to someone who has lived 80 years instead of scrolling through someone who has lived 30.
Youāll realize pretty quickly that a lot of the shit youāre stressing about is completely insignificant.
Your problems might feel enormous when youāre inside of them.
But zoom out.
Youāre alive.
You have time.
You can fuck up and try again.
And you can become a completely different person if you decide you want to.
Maybe Iāll change my mind when Iām 40.
But as of 30 years old, this is what I believe to be true.
Officially unc.
All this love pouring in for Russell Westbrook, and I don't know, part of me is torn on it.
People clowned 0 for years. Got so nasty his wife had to step in and speak out, and he didn't want his own kids at the games anymore. Now he retires and here come all the flowers.
Would've hit different for him hearing some of that back when the whole internet was booing him, you know?
I dunno. Just a thought. Anyway. Be good to people while they can still hear it and while it still matters.
Oklahoma City legends & 2 of the greatest point guards to ever play will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in the same year.
Special stuff.
I remember asking assistant coach Mo Cheeks, whatās harder to do? Workout after practice or before?? I only asked cuz by time I would get to the gym, Russ was already done in the morning and I usually got mine in after practice. Mo like, ācoming in before practice is probably harderāā¦since then, itās been my routineā¦.a lot of people looked at the emotions on the court and thought Russ was loud, nah to me, he was quiet and methodical. He lead by example and once the lights were bright, he let everything out and experienced pure freedom. It was inspiring as his teammate and everywhere I went, I seen it inspire people from all walks of life, crazy thing is, he didnāt say much, he just showed up. For 18 years. This basketball life is sacred to us as professionals, what we put into that court means everything. Some of us wish we could go back and do things with a little more intent and some can just wipe their hands and be satisfied with the time spent. Who u gonna be? We know what zero was onā¦keep inspiring in the next phase of life champ. I donāt care what happens, canāt erase what it wasā¦The first YNs, finals run in our early 20s, all star games, seeing each other get injured and bounce back, the bus rides, plane rides, card games, jokes and arguments, the whole thing, memorable!! ā¦to the whole Westbrook family, Nina, the kids, mama Westbrook, big Russ, Ray, Donnell, everybody from luezinger high and ucla and many more that Iām forgettin, much love and Congratulations on a iconic career.
