There’s an interesting story about what happened after this article was published.

Dhanya and Chitra, both messaged me separately, telling me that their reporter had cancer and the morning they wrote this copy, they had chemo. The reporter wrote the “real name” in the copy. The editor, who was also unwell, changed without “thinking much” since the editor was also unwell.

Both of them asked me, “imagine how she feels now. She has cancer”.

I asked then how cancer had anything to do with giving a Hindu name to a Muslim rapist - no answer. Just attempts to guilt trip.

I told them to get lost, of course.

Another forgotten Hindu massacre :

The Bhairanpally Massacre by the Razakars of Hyderabad.

The Bhairanpally Massacre is considered as one of the most brutal mass k|ll|ng of villagers, carried out on 27th August 1948, by the Razakars (the private militia of the Nizam of Hyderabad) in the village of Bhairanpally, located in present-day Siddipet district, Telangana.

It also remains as one of pivotal episodes of vi0lence during the final phase of the Telangana Armed Struggle against the authoritarian rule of the Nizam of Hyderabad.

Following India's independence in August 1947, the people of Hyderabad State revolted against the Nizam's rule, demanding integration into the Indian Union. Bhairanpally became a core centre of local resistance. Armed only with traditional weapons like slings, sticks, and stones, the villagers successfully repelled three separate attacks by the Nizam's private militia, the Razakars.

The Final Assault was on 27th August 1948, when infuriated by the stiff resistance, the Razakars, reinforced by official Hyderabad state military forces and police equipped with firearms and cannons, launched a massive, coordinated raid on the village. The villagers took refuge inside a mud fortress and watchtower (Burj) to defend themselves, but they were quickly overwhelmed by superior firepower. Once the defences fell, the Razakars went on a horrific rampage, looting properties, k!lling men, and gang-r@ping the village women and subjecting them to public humiliation.

Witness accounts say that the Captured men were lined up two to three lines deep, and sh0t with single bullets to minimize ammunition expenditure.

Historical records state that 96 villagers were ex€cuted on the day of the main assault. However, broader historical literature and accounts from village elders state that the total number of d€aths reached up to 200 people, when counting the k|llings in Bhairanpally and its surrounding settlements, in the days leading up to the final m@ssacre.

The k!llings at Bhairanpally often referred to as the "Jallianwala Bagh of the South" further unified opposition against the Nizam regime. Just weeks later, on 13 September 1948, the Indian government launched Operation Polo, a military intervention that led to the surrender of the Hyderabad State forces and its successful integration into India.
