My father once told me the secret to a happy marriage.
āStay out of the kitchen. Let her handle the holidays.ā
I was 19. He was in his recliner.
My mother was cooking for 14 people.
Sheād been up since 5 AM.
Heād been up since the football pregame.
I didnāt think anything of it.
Thatās just how it was.
Fast forward 20 years.
Iām in the recliner.
My wife is in the kitchen.
Sheās been up since 5 AM.
Iāve been up since the pregame.
My daughter walks by and I see her watching.
Not the TV.
Her mother.
Then me.
Then her mother again.
Thatās when it hit me:
Sheās taking notes.
My father taught me that holidays were for men to rest and women to work.
He didnāt say it.
He showed it.
Every Thanksgiving.
Every Christmas.
Every Easter.
The recliner passed from him to me like an inheritance I never asked for.
This morning I woke up at 4 AM.
Not for content.
For the turkey.
My wife found me in the kitchen at 6.
She didnāt say anything.
She just stood there.
Then she cried.
Your kids are taking notes.
Not on what you say.
On where you sit.
The recliner is an inheritance.
Be the generation that stands up.
One of the honors of serving as President is having the "Presidential Challenge Coin" ā a memento that I have handed out as President and in the years since to the folks I meet who have served our country or their communities. I was grateful to be able to greet veterans who served in Korea and Vietnam as they arrived in DC this weekend, and give them a personal token of my gratitude.
Oh no I really hope Bill Clinton isnāt in the Epstein files, Iāll have to get rid of my Bill Clinton hat and my Bill Clinton sneakers and my Bill Clinton cologne and my Bill Clinton watch and take down my Bill Clinton flag and Iāll have to delete my Bill Clinton nft trading cards
Nobody grew up with intentions of being a cleaner, cashier, security guard, taxi driver, car cleaner, or store general worker. We all had big dreams, but life happened. Respect peopleās jobs.
There is nothing that pisses me off more than seeing an elderly person, far beyond retirement age, hunched over and working a cash register at a corporate chain store to pay their bills. This shouldnāt be normal in this country.
āuse AI or youāll get left behindā oh no thatās ok you guys go on ahead iāll be back here with my reading comprehension and critical thinking skills
someone at work said that a generation of kids growing up not reading books is a generation of kids not learning how to imagine what it's like to put themselves in someone else's shoes and understand how/why they feel what they do (empathy)
Everyone is sharing the clip where this goes off the rails, but if you watch the actual full sit down youāll see it all turned sour at this moment. Which should have not have been controversial. Zelensky is allowed to make his case to the public. Thatās why heās here!
To be clear: this entire thing went off the rails because Zelensky made the catastrophically offensive move of pointing out the reality that Putin broke a ceasefire in 2015 and that when Vance talks about diplomacy, he canāt explain how Putin is a trustworthy partner.
Zelensky simply spoke the truth, which Vance deemed totally unacceptable and offensive because he was trying to ālitigateā the issue in front of the press.
And then it unraveled from there. Just wild.
So much symbolism in that #HalfTimeShow from the colors (red, white, and blue) to reflect America, to having all black men as dancers for specific songs, to the use of āGame Overā at the end. Most diabolical and thought out performance šš¾šš¾#SuperBowl
My daughter (4th grade) says to me,
"But dad, out of 60 kids I'm one of only 3 in my grade WITHOUT a phone!"
Me: "I'm glad to know there's 2 other sets of great, intentional parents besides your mom & I!!"
My daughter: uhhhh dad......
HOLD THE LINE PARENTS.
Kids don't need access to EVERYTHING in the world so young.
Loving your kids isn't GIVING THEM EVERYTHING THEY WANT.
Loving your kids is teaching them:
ā¢DISCIPLINE.
ā¢DELAYING GRATIFICATION.
ā¢SETTING HEALTHY BOUNDARIES.
It is absurd so many CHILDREN have phones.
Most adults can't use them responsibly.
You're setting your child up for failure handing them unrestricted access to everything so young.
I asked her why she thinks the situation has gotten so dire and she had several theories. Covid school closures. Online classes. Parents who arenāt invested in their children. The ubiquity of phones in schools, which makes it difficult for developing brains to focus.
Student: āWhy am I failing?
Me, thinking back to the times I told them to take notes, and to be quiet, and to retake the quiz they failed, and to study, and to turn in their assignment, and to work in class, and to do the reading only for them to do none of that: āYou really canāt figure it out?ā
