"The government is shut down and the Republicans who currently are in charge of Congress, they're not even pretending to solve the problem," Obama said at a rally for Abigail Spanberger, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate in Virginia.

"They have not even been showing up to work, not in session," the former president continued. "Where are you? What are you doing? And as for the president, he has been focused on critical issues like paving over the Rose Garden so folks don't get mud on their shoes, and gold-plating the Oval Office and building a $300 million ballroom."

"So Virginia, here's the good news, if you can't visit a doctor, don't worry, he will save you a dance," Obama continued. "And if you don't get an invitation to the next White House shindig, you can always watch the festivities and all the beautiful people on True Social."

The fact that Trump is focused on building a ballroom funded by corrupt corporate donations and throwing a Great Gatsby party at Mar-a-Lago as SNAP benefits expire for 42 millions highlights just how rotten to its core the Republican Party has become. As if that weren't bad enough, the ongoing government shutdown is a result of Trump refusing to extend crucial Affordable Care Act subsidies.

The MAGA movement has become so cartoonishly evil that some Americans have chosen to stick their heads in the sand rather than confront it. Obama refuses to do that—

"I mean, they've devoted enormous energy to trying to entrench themselves in power and punishing their enemies, and enriching their friends, and silencing their critics," said Obama. "They've put on a big show of deporting people and targeting transgender folks."

"They never miss a chance to scapegoat minorities and DEI for every problem under the sun. You got a flat tire? DEI. Huh? Wife mad at you? DEI," he mocked.

"What they have not devoted energy to is helping you," Obama continued. "They have not put forward serious proposals to lower housing costs or make groceries more affordable. They haven't improved our schools. They haven't made healthcare more accessible. They haven't shortened your commute or prepared young people for the future where AI might take their job."

As usual, President Obama has a remarkable knack for cutting to the heart of the matter. The simple truth is that Republicans are doing absolutely nothing as the lives of Americans get markedly worse. Come the mid-terms, we make them pay for it dearly.

When I cast my vote for President Biden, I wasn't expecting much. I just wanted trump out of office.

I knew he was old.
I knew he had a stutter.
I knew he had a rep for "gaffes."
I didn't care. Just wanted trump gone.

Four years later, things are different.
I wasn't expecting that President Biden would be the most legislatively successful President in my lifetime.

I wasn't expecting him to help expand NATO.
I wasn't expecting him to lower insulin & inhalers.
I wasn't expecting him to create & recover 15m jobs.
I wasn't expecting him to bring manufacturing back.
I wasn't expecting him to forgive student debt.

But he did ALL those things, and more.
He surpassed my expectations by a lot.
And he has more planned for 2025-2028.

He's not a master orator,
He doesn't move so smoothly
But neither did FDR from his wheelchair.

Meanwhile, trump is STILL a threat.
He wants to be a dictator.
He wants to stay out of prison.
He wants revenge on his enemies.
He wants to take away from the poor and middle class and give to the ultra wealthy.
His Project 2025 will enable a national abortion ban to criminalize women seeking safe and legal abortions.
His Project 2025 will take away the rights of our LGBTQ family and friends.
His Project 2025 will transform the government into a loyalty pledge, not to America but to him ALONE.
We might never have another free election.

THAT is what is at stake in this election.

We can continue to progress with Biden policies, or we can let trump destroy democracy as we know it.

If you're looking for someone who's young and athletic, go watch a fucking movie.

I'll take the old guy who needs a nap while saving democracy over the old guy trying to overthrow democracy who needs a legal team.
