Major Padmapani Acharya was tasked with capturing a heavily fortified enemy position. The success depended on an early breakthrough, but the attack nearly faltered due to artillery fire from the enemy, causing heavy casualties.

Ignoring his safety, Major Acharya took the reserve platoon and advanced through artillery shelling and enemy gunfire. He crawled up to the position, lobbed grenades and despite being seriously injured and unable to move, ordered his men to leave him and charge at the enemy. He continued firing as the enemy position was overrun and the objective seized, but later succumbed to the injuries.

For his exemplary courage & gallant leadership, he was Awarded #MahaVirChakra (Posthumous).
