Why do they need Rs. 40,000 crores for Assembly and Packaging? It is a huge investment. This is a cost of a 40nm or 28nm CMOS silicon processing fab.

Did the team thought about logistics of raw materials and chemicals? Nearest port I can image is Kolkata and is 1000+ km away by road, minimum 25+ hrs journey. IMHO, it is not a viable plan to setup such facility in a remote area.

Tata Group has submitted an application to set up a semiconductor processing plant in Assam with an investment of ₹40,000 cr.
