@smerconish Two parties will never be able to reflect or serve the variety of political beliefs Americans hold. But as long as we have a first-past-the-post system, we will only ever have two viable political parties. Our system is the problem.
@smerconish Re: conservative commencement speakers. I remember one a while back who told the women graduates that their degrees and future careers weren't important compared to their future marriages and children. So maybe universities don't wanna piss off half their graduating classes.
@smerconish The admiral's willingness to be vulnerable is a much better example of masculinity than what the alpha male proponents are offering these days. Real men have the courage to feel their pain.
@smerconish If Trump were acting like he does but providing health care for everyone, negotiating with Iran to extend the JCPOA that he never tore up, making the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes, working on true immigration reform, etc., I would give him high marks on job performance.
@ladylaurielou@BillWilde388919@Cjpearson If Republicans had been losing at gerrymandering, they would have jumped at the chance to ban it nationwide with the Democrats' bill in 2021. But they killed it in the Senate instead. Because they were winning, at least in legislative districts.
@tedcruz You really think that the KKK's terrorism was instigated by the SPLC? Which didn't even exist back when the KKK started committing hate crimes?
@toddstarnes Y'all already have redistricted! It started here in Texas, and I think you're about out of runway. You should have supported the nationwide gerrymandering ban in 2021 instead of every single one of you voting against it and killing it in the Senate.
@SenateGOP If banning masks and mandating cameras, ID, and judicial warrants to enter private property would end immigration enforcement, why are our police still able to enforce all the other laws?
@LaurenWitzkeDE You say that your belief in Trump proves that women shouldn't be pastors. But many male pastors are still saying Trump is God's anointed. Why, then, don't you also conclude that men shouldn't be pastors?
@smerconish Boomers got a huge investment in education and the ability to buy houses on one income, when with high interest rates. Young millennials & older Gen Z have college debt and can't buy houses even with two incomes. They'll also live through the consequences of global warming.
@smerconish@CNN@cnni@BarakRavid Even if Trump gets Iran to open the strait, give up half the enriched uranium, and allow inspections for a number of years, the question is still this: Could we have gotten those things without all that death, and without spending all that money on war? He didn't even try.
@smerconish If an algorithm realizes I like knitting and feeds me knitting videos all day, that's harmless. But if an algorithm notices someone is interested in anti-vax or conspiracy theories, and feeds them those ideas without facts from the other side -- we've seen the harm that causes.
@smerconish I can't call in today, but to me the problem is the algorithm. It's absolutely the heart of the product: just ask people why they like TikTok. And personalized algorithms subvert the whole marketplace of ideas that our First Amendment was predicated on. 1/2
@JohnCornyn@DHSgov@RepCasar They're happy to fund everything but immigration agents who wear masks but who won't have anything to do with ID, body cams, or judicial warrants. Insist that ICE and CBP adhere to standards of real law enforcement, and they'll fund all of it!
