There are metric clocks with 10 hours a day and 100 min per hour etc. It was too hard to change because the entire world was using it. That is the difference to units of length and mass. Those were all over the place at the time.

@CptAncapistan The US measuring units are based on the SI. For example, 1 yard is defined with the length of 0.9144 m. The documents are available at the NIST.
