I just thought to myself "he'd have even more fans if he was humble" but then I quickly realised he'd have a lot less fans because he needs to appeal to the cringe "alpha male" bootlickers, swings and roundabouts
🚨📲 Shakira on IG: "Very proud of you, Leo, and of everything you’re achieving for your family, your country, and all Latinos!!! Your commitment and dedication are an example to many. Keep shining!” ✨❤️
🚨 Declan Rice: “Lionel Messi, I think what we're witnessing right now is truly very special and what he's doing at this age is unbelievable”.
“As a football fan, a football enthusiast and also as a footballer, watching him is an incredible pleasure”.
Nestor Lorenzo (Colombia coach): "When I was asked to vote for the best player in the world, I think that was for a European magazine, I chose Messi.
"So they said to me: No, Messi isn't among the nominees, he's not in the running.
"I said to them: How can he not be in the running? As long as Messi steps onto the pitch, he's one of the world's best players, the best of all time...
"So, what he does doesn't surprise me at all."
All the records broken by Lionel Messi today:
Most FIFA World Cup finals goals by a football (soccer) player - 18
Most FIFA World Cup matches played in by an individual - 28
Most matches won by a player at the football (soccer) FIFA World Cup - 18
Most minutes played in the football (soccer) FIFA World Cup - 2,489
We are witnessing history.
Ronaldo fans just wouldn’t understand this.
Out of the 17 Argentine players that played in the World Cup final against France, 14 of them were born between 1991-2001.
They were born well after the Maradona era and likely grew up watching and idolizing Messi.
Those players were between 10-20 years old when Messi dropped the greatest performance in Champions League final history in 2011 and was being called the best ever.
They were 13-23 when they saw him carry the burden of an entire nation only to come short in the final of the 2014 World Cup.
They were 15-25 when they saw him cry in the 2016 Copa America final after coming short again in their 3rd consecutive international final.
They saw his own people burning his jerseys and cuss him for not being able to end their trophy drought.
They saw the country’s footballing idol tell the team to not come back to Argentina if they failed to lose that final.
They watched their idol carry the blame for every defeat and never complain about it.
They saw him fall, get back up, and try again.
Over. And. Over.
FOUR consecutive international titles isn’t by coincidence.
Messi inspired an entire generation of footballers that are willing to go to war for him in every match.
Simply because they don’t want to see their idol fall again.
I apologize in advance if this applies to you but I sincerely believe that if you think Ronaldo was ever close to Messi, you are of an objectively lower mental status than me, something akin to a sea urchin or maybe a mussel.
