Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Affairs at NOAA. Lifelong ocean lover. Working for a healthy ocean and climate for all of us. Thoughts are my own.
I am thrilled and honored to share that I've joined the amazing team at @NOAA as Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Affairs. I am looking forward to helping make progress on coastal resilience, plastics, marine protected areas, and much more! https://t.co/brAS1WZo5j

Thank you, @rickspinradnoaa! I am thrilled to be part of the @NOAA team. There are so many opportunities to move the #ocean and #climate agendas forward this year!
Looking forward to this important conference in what will be another critical year for the #ocean (and #Climate). @OurOceanGreece is the perfect place to make advances on ocean issues - including decarbonizing #shipping, of course! Hope to see you there!

Because of the #EndangeredSpeciesAct I've spent the holidays watching bald eagles and stellar sea lions in the beautiful Pacific NW... There is more to do, but I salute those with the bipartisan vision to pass this critical law 50 years ago. Let this be an inspiration for us now!
50 years ago, a Democrat-led Congress and Republican president took action for nature. On Dec 28, 1973, Pres. Nixon signed the #EndangeredSpeciesAct.
Since then, 99% of listed species have been saved from extinction. With today's threats, our commitment to #ESA remains vital.
The 5th National Climate Assessment is well-timed with #COP28 approaching. The report spotlights the urgent need for the US & the world to reduce emissions & adapt to climate impacts now! #OceanClimateAction is a critical part of the solution!
My Administration has released the Fifth National Climate Assessment in our history.
It makes clear that climate change is impacting all regions of our nation – but that communities are taking more action than ever to reduce climate risks.
We have to keep that action going.
@OceanOutcomes is looking for its next Executive Director! This is an incredible opportunity to improve sustainability of seafood worldwide and enhance the collective well-being of the ocean and people who depend on it. Find more at https://t.co/zPenqC02FO.
I had the pleasure of talking with @MarkLGoldberg on @UNDispatch about the recent new @IMOHQ strategy to reduce GHG emissions. What a great way to put things in the global #ClimateAction context! Thanks, Mark! https://t.co/y18znEiwxQ via @shareaholic
Couldn't agree more. Much work to do but the #IMO strategy is better, stronger, and more equitable because of the Pacific. #MEPC80@alishoda@Climateaction
Thanks to Pacific Islands for their leadership on raising ambition at the #IMO. The foundation is laid for a just and equitable transition, including a precedent-setting potential price on carbon. Now the work begins to make it happen. #Climateaction#MEPC80@joeloyo@alishoda
Handy table from @joeloyo in his @ClimateHome write up, showing how pressure from Pacific Islands in particular has driven a gradual increase in ambition throughout the week... #MEPC80
https://t.co/ExS1aE5mtc
#IMO just adopted a new #GHG strategy that raises the bar significantly for cutting emissions from shipping and lays out a path for binding regulations to implement it. Unlike #UNFCCC IMO has authority to regulate the sector, meaning these numbers have teeth! #climateaction
A view from the Pacific Islands on the current #IMO#MEPC80#climateaction debate. Precedent-setting questions on setting a price on emissions are on the table, proposed by countries that stand to lose the most from Climate Change.
As we head into the final stretch of #IMO#MEPC80 meetings, I want to address some #disinformation we’re seeing about two goals we have this week: a) targets for decarbonisation, and b) the levy.
A thread:

Major international talks on cutting the shipping industry’s huge emissions started today at the IMO in London. Here’s what you need to know: https://t.co/JostBlQ67T via @business

I've been off twitter since new management, but negotiations at the #IMO on #ClimateActionNow need broad attention. Arguably the most critical climate meeting this year is now @IMOHQ. Any country that cares about not exceeding 1.5° should be pushing for that here.

We need you! Instead of taking steps to address #climatechange, attacks on NEPA take us in the wrong direction. SJ 55 will likely lead to more carbon emissions at a time when dramatic reductions are needed. We need our Senators to #ProtectNEPA! https://t.co/q3fzfqWPGV
Reducing emissions is the most important thing we can do for the #ocean. Thank you @SenateDems for historic investments in a clean energy future that will protect people and the planet. #OceanClimateAction
