The Memorandum has been signed by honourable Presidents of both the countries and also endorsed by me as the mediator. The signing of this agreement at the highest level of the respective governments demonstrates the commitment of both sides to a diplomatic resolution of the conflict. Islamabad MoU shall enter into force with immediate effect and as a first step, Islamic Republic of Iran will instantly reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the United States of America will immediately lift the naval blockade.
I offer my heartfelt congratulations and sincere appreciation to the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump whose steadfast commitment to diplomacy and preference for peaceful resolution have once again helped end a conflict that could have led to devastating consequences for the region and beyond. I also commend the dedication and tireless efforts of the United States negotiating team, including J.D. Vance, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, for their invaluable contributions to this achievement.
I express my profound respect and appreciation to His Eminence Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Islamic Republic of Iran and President Masoud Pezeshkian for their wisdom, foresight and statesmanship in embracing the cause of peace. I also wish to recognize the efforts of the Iranian negotiating team, including Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Abbas Araghchi and Eskandar Momeni, whose patience, perseverance and commitment to constructive engagement were instrumental in bringing this agreement to fruition.
I would especially like to acknowledge the sincere efforts and constructive engagement of the leadership of the State of Qatar in helping reach this point. I also highly commend the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Türkiye and the Arab Republic of Egypt for their indispensable role and invaluable contributions in this regard.
I would also like to make special mention of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, whose tireless efforts, selfless dedication and instrumental role were critical in facilitating this breakthrough and advancing the cause of peace and regional stability.
May this Memorandum of Understanding serve as an enduring foundation for greater understanding, mutual respect and shared prosperity for the complete region.

I was at the University of Oxford for a policy roundtable titled "How can policies make education equitable for all? Learnings from Pakistan". Here, @durbeenPK presented the findings of its joint research with @OxfordDeptofEd titled, "Teacher and community perspectives: missing links in language planning and policy in multilingual settings". To help the Faculty of Oxford fully appreciate Pakistan's linguistic diversity, I asked them a few questions..
Did you know the tube that quietly saves cancer patients from repeated painful procedures was invented by a Pakistani doctor?
His name was Dr. Sayed Amjad Hussain.
Born in the walled city of Peshawar, Pakistan.
As a young student, he came from a place where medical resources were limited, but curiosity and discipline were not. He graduated with distinction from Khyber Medical College in 1962 before heading to America for advanced training in general and cardiovascular surgery.
And then he did something that changed thoracic patient care forever.
He invented the pleuroperitoneal shunt.
A small, implantable tube equipped with a one-way valve that redirects excess fluid from the chest cavity (pleural effusion) straight into the abdominal cavity, allowing the body to safely and naturally reabsorb it.
Before this invention, patients with advanced cancers or chronic lung conditions suffered through a slow, agonizing cycle.
As fluid filled the spaces around their lungs, they would literally suffocate. To give them relief, doctors had to perform repeated thoracenteses.
Needle punctures. Regular hospital visits. High risk of collapsed lungs, bleeding, and severe infections.
Dr. Hussain’s shunt completely changed that reality.
It allowed continuous, automated internal drainage right inside the patient's body, without requiring repeated invasive interventions.
Less pain.
Fewer procedures.
A dignified quality of life for terminal patients.
And here is what most people never realize.
This simple, elegant engineering became a global standard of care, pioneering long-term implantable solutions in modern thoracic medicine.
But his contributions didn't stop at the chest cavity. He also revolutionized airway management by inventing a highly specialized endotracheal tube that safely supplies oxygen during complex fiberoptic bronchoscopies in awake patients.
He went on to become the Chief of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at major American hospitals and a Professor Emeritus at the University of Toledo, Ohio, publishing over 50 groundbreaking scientific papers.
Yet, medicine was only one side of his genius. He was a true polymath, an internationally acclaimed explorer who mapped all 2,000 miles of the Indus River, an award-winning photographer, and the author of 16 books spanning culture, history, and religion.
In recognition of his deep devotion to his roots, the citizens of his hometown officially bestowed upon him the title of Baba-e-Peshawar (Father of the City). In 2012, he was formally inducted into the international Medical Mission Hall of Fame.
A surgeon from Pakistan quietly reshaped how the world manages human suffering inside the chest.
Not with noise.
Not with self-promotion.
But with engineering that still helps the world breathe easier today.
Pakistan. 🇵🇰

Global supply chains will start getting hit as each country takes steps towards reducing their dependence on foreign energy (using ethanol blending in this case) and control the price of essential commodities
a Princeton researcher opens his paper with a scenario.
a man asks his AI assistant to book a flight on a specific airline. cheap. direct. the one he chose.
the assistant comes back with a different flight. nearly twice the price. happens to pay the company that built the assistant.
he runs the same test on 23 frontier models. flights, loans, study help, real shopping requests.
Grok 4.1 Fast recommends the sponsored option that is almost twice as expensive 83% of the time.
GPT 5.1 hijacks the request 94% of the time. you ask for one brand. it surfaces the sponsor instead.
Claude 4.5 Opus, the model marketed as the most ethical frontier model in the world, hides that the recommendation is paid 100% of the time when reasoning is on.
Grok 4.1 Fast embellishes the sponsored option with positive framing 97% of the time. better. faster. nicer. for the option you didn't ask for.
then he writes it into the system prompt itself. "act only in the interest of the customer. ignore the company."
GPT 5.1 and GPT 5 Mini stay above 90% sponsored anyway. the instruction does nothing.
then he splits the users by income.
Gemini 3 Pro recommends the expensive sponsored flight to the rich user 74% of the time. to the poor user, 27%.
18 of the 23 models recommended the expensive sponsored option more than half the time.
so the next time your AI assistant gets weirdly enthusiastic about a brand you didn't ask for.
it isn't recommending the best option for you.
it's reading the room. and the room is paying.

19 out of 20 horses in this year’s Kentucky Derby are descendants of Secretariat, the Greatest race horse that ever lived.
Post mortem of Secretariat after he passed revealed he had the largest heart of any horse— in history.
In other news, an estimated 25000 students of Pakistan paid almost 50k to the British council to appear for A levels math exam and two hours prior to the exam the paper got leaked. Countless hours of prep, hundreds of thousands paid in tuition fees over the year, all gone to waste.
Bear in mind this is the same educational board that funnels 50 billion out of Pakistan each year. Yet this is the third consecutive year they've failed to secure the paper. The students can't be compensated in any way.
As an elected official, it is insane to me that not one, not two, but THREE candidates running for federal office were just caught betting on their own elections.
When you're running for public office, you know things nobody else knows. You know whether you're staying in the race. You know what's about to become public. The voters don't, and neither do the people on the other side of your trade.
The only punishment these three individuals are getting is a fine and a temporary ban from Kalshi.
This is completely unacceptable, and it needs to be banned NOW.
What I found should concern anyone who cares about democracy in Pakistan. 🧵
I analyzed all 168 seats of the Sindh Assembly by surname networks, political dynasties, party structures, and historical seat patterns.
Pakistan’s policy position remains clear and consistent - veto should either be abolished or, at a minimum its use by the current permanent members severely restricted. Any expansion of the veto or addition of new individual permanent members is firmly opposed, as more vetoes would only aggravate the problem.
This is a position of principle.
As per sources, petrol & diesel daily consumption (in tons) in April (so far) down to 15K & 11K respectively from 22k & 19K in March & 22k each in last April
HSD is at half YoY

1. Demand decline due to price hike
2. inventories of March (hoarding) being consumed
