🌹🇨🇦🇨🇦🌹 Today in Ottawa, I stood with permanent residence applicants and their families who are calling for a fairer, more transparent and more efficient immigration process.

Canada is a nation built by immigrants. People come here because they believe in our values—inclusion, fairness, opportunity, the rule of law and respect for every individual.

Security screening is essential to protecting Canada’s national interests and public safety, and I fully support a rigorous process. At the same time, applicants deserve timely decisions, clear communication and transparency. Some of those I met today have been waiting 30, 39, or even 75 months for a response. Behind every application is a person, a family, a career and a future.

Years of uncertainty affect applicants and their loved ones, and risk damaging Canada’s reputation as a welcoming and reliable destination for talent from around the world.

I recognize that IRCC professionals work under significant pressure. The goal is not to criticize public servants, but to encourage meaningful improvements that make the system more efficient, transparent and accountable.

I thank everyone who gathered peacefully and respectfully today. Constructive civic engagement is an important part of Canada’s democracy. I hope this nationwide gathering leads to meaningful dialogue and positive action.

Since 2014, I have carried the Lion and Sun flag of Iran to stadiums around the world.

The true national flag of Iran is the Lion and Sun — a historic symbol with centuries of heritage and identity behind it — not the ideological flag of the Islamic Republic with the name of Allah in its center.

To those around the world: understand the current regime’s flag the same way you understand other ideological symbols throughout history, such as the communist hammer and sickle that replaced the national flags of occupied nations. Ideological regimes often replace the historical identity of a people with symbols of their ruling doctrine.

FIFA has no right to erase the real national symbol of the Iranian people from stadiums and international competitions.

A nation’s history, identity, and voice cannot be banned.

تمام سال‌هایی که برای دفاع از حق زنان میهنم به ورزشگاه‌ها رفتم، یگانه پرچم میهنم را برافراشتم؛ گرچه هیچ‌وقت آسان نبود.

عمداً صندلی‌ام را جلوی دوربین‌ها می‌خریدم تا تمام جهان بداند پرچم راستین ایران چیست.

جمهوری اسلامی آن‌قدر از هویت ملی ما می‌ترسد که تمام همّ و غمش سانسور کردن من و پرچم واقعی میهنم بود؛ امری که همیشه برایشان دردسرساز می‌شد. با این حال، هموطنانم در داخل ایران پرچم را می‌دیدند و دلگرم می‌شدند که: «ما ادامه داریم.»

داخل ورزشگاه، از مأمور امنیتی و پلیس گرفته تا نیروهای نظامی را می‌آوردند تا پرچمم را بگیرن�� و تهدیدم می‌کردند که مرا از ورزشگاه بیرون می‌اندازند. اما من همچنان می‌ایستادم.

می‌گفتند جمهوری اسلامی نمی‌خواهد این پرچم در تلویزیون دیده شود و من با اطمینان پاسخ می‌دادم:
«اینجا جمهوری اسلامی نیست؛ هر کاری می‌خواهید بکنید. من از جایم تکان نمی‌خورم. اگر می‌خواهید بیرونم بیندازید، باید مرا روی زمین بکشید.»

هموطن،
ما همه پرچم‌داران میهنیم و هیچ‌کس نمی‌تواند ما را خاموش کند. حتی اگر فیفا آن را ممنوع کند، ما یگانه پرچم ایران را با افتخار در ورزشگاه‌ها برافراشته نگه خواهیم داشت.
