I like bacon. Other stuff too. Books books books books. It's a thing. She/her. Sometimes the Jersey girl comes out, but the accent is gone. I swear a lot. Oops.
We must not delude ourselves in this moment. Multiracial democracy in the United States is less than 60 years old. It has always been contested, often violently so. It has always been fragile. Since this nation's inception large swaths of white Americans -- including white women -- have claimed a belief in democracy while actually enforcing a white ethnocracy. In the face of shifting demographics where white Americans will lose their numeric majority, we see a growing embrace of autocracy to keep the "legitimate" rulers of this country in power. History teaches us that we are in a perilous moment.

As a reminder,
The US has had 46 presidents. Among them, there have been 91 criminal felony charges indicted. Those charges are distributed among the presidents as in the following list:

@heymrsbond Our students are 1:1 and their devices have a "voice recorder" application on them. We've used that with varying amounts of success now that Flip isn't available as a standalone. Still sore about that too :(
@HeatherL114 When I subbed I left a note every time. And as a teacher when I sub on my planning period, I still send a quick note to my colleague. Subs are so hard for many students cause it changes their routine, a note is the literal *least* they can do.
@heymrsbond I love that one of our District ELA specialists posted your Halloween bell ringer (with credit) to our LMS and I immediately recognized it. Thanks for all the amazing work you do and share with us!
@gaughen Someone elsewhere posted something along the lines of "this is why you need to go to a polling place and not use mail in ballots" Sir. These boxes *are* my polling place, we are 100% mail-in in WA (with some exceptions, but they are few and far between)
When disaster strikes, people under correctional control are not free to flee.
Florida has one of the largest criminal legal systems in the world with 340,000 people behind bars or on probation.
#Milton will be dire – and these lives are at the mercy of the correctional system.
@heymrsbond I wear a cardigan during the winter, cause you know, it's chilly and I like the deep pockets. But let me tell you, I get ahead of them and let them know that I wear it *all the time* so they don't comment about it XD
I want a “reverse Costco” where you can buy small amounts of items you will rarely use again, like specialty ingredients.
Let me pay $1 for 1 oz of fish sauce. Yes, I can get much more for not that much more money but then I’ll feel guilty every time I see it in my fridge.
So, immigrants come to this country (with fentanyl & guns to sell) but steal your job demanding to work for less than minimum wage. Then, with all those sub-minimum wages, outbid you on a house. (And may be eat your pets). Got it.
@heymrsbond Our HS uses the March series of GN. There are also "young readers" editions of Stamped by Ibram X. Kendi & Jason Reynolds as well as Born a Crime by Trevor Noah and Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson that my 7th graders love, don't know if they'd be too "young" for HS students.
