Does water stop mattering once we flush it away?

In most urban settlements in India, the journey of wastewater does not end in treatment plants, despite major investments in sanitation through national programmes. So where does it go, and how do we strengthen the full sanitation chain, from containment and collection to treatment and safe reuse?

Join IIHS School of Systems and Infrastructure faculty, Abhilaasha N and Kavita Wankhade, along with Niladri Chakraborti, Senior Lead – IIHS Practice, for a masterclass on real-world lessons from their large scale water and sanitation systems practice.

Through examples from cities and towns, the session will explore the trade-offs involved in sanitation service delivery, its links to the SDGs, and emerging career pathways across the full cycle of the water and sanitation chain.

Across 10 themes and 10 years, Urban ARC has demonstrated that understanding cities as dynamic systems shaped by people, institutions, cultures, and governance requires perspectives that cut across disciplines and contexts.
