The government is giving excuses not to seriously invest in GPUs and build globally competitive LLMs/frontier models. There are enough people who say that India should not spend on hardware and only focus on AI applications. Think tanks have advocated for a “trusted AI corridor” with the US. These voices are clearly being heard to at the expense of Indian sovereign interests. The trend is to talk about sovereignty and then take two steps back. Happening across defense - jet engines, naval vessels - and tech - AI, social media, messaging apps, satellite internet. Smokescreens to deepen dependence on the US and leave the country in a mess decades from now.

Anyone who thinks the money is not there to invest is not truthful. The money is there - it can be borrowed from the future through tax holidays and supplemented with cash rewards unlocked at innovation and market share thresholds.
