I was out with a friend for dinner, and he said to the waiter, "We like to pray before we eat. How can we pray for you?" The waiter was caught off guard and mumbled, "I don't think I really need any prayer" before walking away. But he came back five minutes later and said, "I recently found out that my girlfriend is pregnant, and I'm terrified of being a father. Would you pray for me?"
What an amazing opportunity to be a light in this man's world!
James 1 does not say trials might come. It says when they come. The testing of faith produces steadfastness, and steadfastness has a finished work. Untested faith is not necessarily false faith. But it is immature faith, and God loves us too much to leave it that way.

Eisegesis reads meaning into the text. Exegesis draws meaning out of it. The difference is not just academic. One approach lets Scripture speak. The other uses Scripture as a ventriloquist's prop. Biblical literacy begins with learning to ask what the text says before asking what it means for you.
